Operation Berbir, a tactical level military action of Croatian forces in the Croatian War. It was a Croat attack on Bok Jankovac. [1] [2]

Course of the operation

In the early morning hours of August 8, 1992, more than 700 members of the Croatian "Berbir Battalion" crossed the river and attacked Serbian positions in Bok Jankovac. With strong resistance, but also heavy losses, members of the Croatian army unit crossed the Sava in Bok Jankovac, a suburb of Bosanska Gradiška , and attacked Serbian positions. [3] A fierce fight broke out. The attack was repulsed by Serbian forces with the loss of 16 dead. Serbs managed to defend Bok Jankovac. [4]

Aftermath

A Memorial was built for the fallen Serbs in Bok Jankovac, which is visited by delegations of the President of Srpska.

The Sijekovac killings, also called the Sijekovac massacre, refers to the killing of Serb civilians, in Sijekovac near Bosanski Brod, Bosnia and Herzegovina on 26 March 1992. The assailants were members of Croat and Bosniak army units. The exact number of casualties is unknown. The initial reported number was eleven, while the Republika Srpska authorities listed 47, however, exhumations in Sijekovac carried out for two weeks in 2004 unearthed 58 bodies of victims, of whom 18 were children.

Operation Mistral 2, officially codenamed Operation Maestral 2, was a Croatian Army (HV) and Croatian Defence Council (HVO) offensive in western Bosnia and Herzegovina on 8–15 September 1995 as part of the Bosnian War. Its objective was to create a security buffer between Croatia and positions held by the Bosnian Serb Army of Republika Srpska (VRS). The operation also spearheaded a Herzeg-Croat led move to compromise the occupation of the largest Bosnian Serb-held city, Banja Luka, by capturing the towns of Jajce, Šipovo and Drvar. Thus jeopardizing the operations capacity of Banja Luka and ultimately leading to its recapture. The combined HV and HVO forces were under the overall command of HV Major General Ante Gotovina.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Bosnia and Herzegovina was a part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have reached Bosnia and Herzegovina on 5 March 2020, when a patient in Banja Luka, who had travelled to Italy, tested positive. Later on the same day, a second case, who was the son of the first case, was reported. On 21 March, the first death in the country from COVID-19 was announced in a hospital in Bihać. The patient was an elderly woman who had been hospitalized two days before.

Operation Angela was the code name of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) operation to retake Odžak from the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS) on 5 November 1993 during the Bosnian War. The HVO operation was suspended due to a lack of soldiers and a counterattack by the VRS. Long after the fall of Odžak, HVO fighters from Odžak were in Orašje stationed at the Orašije-Šamača front line. For months, they asked the assembly area to release Odžak, but never received permission. The HVO knew that the VRS did not have any strong forces in the area and that liberation was feasible.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Doboj shelling</span>

The Doboj shelling was carried out by the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ARBiH) during its attacks on the city in 1992 and 1994 in the Bosnian War. The ARBiH fired at the city with its artillery, resulting in the deaths of many Serbian civilians. No one has yet been held accountable for the shelling of the city and the civilian casualties.
