ODB (Operon DataBase) is a database of conserved operons in sequenced genomes. [1]

In genetics, an operon is a functioning unit of DNA containing a cluster of genes under the control of a single promoter. The genes are transcribed together into an mRNA strand and either translated together in the cytoplasm, or undergo splicing to create monocistronic mRNAs that are translated separately, i.e. several strands of mRNA that each encode a single gene product. The result of this is that the genes contained in the operon are either expressed together or not at all. Several genes must be co-transcribed to define an operon.

<i>lac</i> operon Set genes encoding proteins and enzymes for lactose metabolism

The lac operon is an operon required for the transport and metabolism of lactose in Escherichia coli and many other enteric bacteria. Although glucose is the preferred carbon source for most bacteria, the lac operon allows for the effective digestion of lactose when glucose is not available through the activity of beta-galactosidase. Gene regulation of the lac operon was the first genetic regulatory mechanism to be understood clearly, so it has become a foremost example of prokaryotic gene regulation. It is often discussed in introductory molecular and cellular biology classes for this reason. This lactose metabolism system was used by François Jacob and Jacques Monod to determine how a biological cell knows which enzyme to synthesize. Their work on the lac operon won them the Nobel Prize in Physiology in 1965.

Charles Yanofsky was an American geneticist on the faculty of Stanford University who contributed to the establishment of the one gene-one enzyme hypothesis and discovered attenuation, a riboswitch mechanism in which messenger RNA changes shape in response to a small molecule and thus alters its binding ability for the regulatory region of a gene or operon.

<i>A Son Unique</i> 2005 studio album by Ol Dirty Bastard

A Son Unique is the third and final studio album by Ol' Dirty Bastard. It was supposed to be released after ODB's death, but was eventually shelved. It was meant to be distributed by Dame Dash. However, he was dropped from the label and the album's release was canceled. Now, it remains as a digital download. Promo versions of this CD also became available in secondary market.

Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are) 1998 single by Pras

"Ghetto Superstar " is a song by American rapper Pras, featuring rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard and R&B singer Mýa. It was released on June 6, 1998. The track samples Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton's 1983 single "Islands in the Stream" and was produced by Wyclef Jean and Jerry 'Wonda" Duplessis for Pras' debut solo studio album, Ghetto Superstar. It was also featured on the soundtrack for the 1998 film Bulworth.

Final Resolution Total Nonstop Action Wrestling pay-per-view event series

Final Resolution was an annual professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event held by Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in December. The event was originally scheduled to take place every January until 2008, when TNA moved the event to December of that year, meaning two Final Resolutions took place in 2008. On January 11, 2013, TNA announced that in 2013 there would be only four PPVs, dropping Final Resolution.

Katarina Leigh Waters is a German-born English professional wrestler currently signed with Impact Wrestling under the ring name Katarina. She also had a stint in WWE under the ring name Katie Lea Burchill. Galactoside acetyltransferase

Galactoside acetyltransferase is an enzyme that transfers an acetyl group from acetyl-CoA to galactosides, glucosides and lactosides. It is coded for by the lacA gene of the lac operon in E. coli.

In the field of molecular biology, a corepressor is a substance that inhibits the expression of genes. In prokaryotes, corepressors are small molecules whereas in eukaryotes, corepressors are proteins. A corepressor does not directly bind to DNA, but instead indirectly regulates gene expression by binding to repressors.

ODB is an object-relational mapping (ORM) system for the C++ language. It allows an application developer to persist C++ objects to a relational database without having to deal with tables, columns, or SQL and without manually writing any mapping code. ODB supports C++98/03 and C++11 language standards and comes with optional profiles for Boost and Qt which allow an application developer to seamlessly use value types, containers, and smart pointers from these libraries in persistent C++ classes. ODB is free software and is dual-licensed under the GPL and a proprietary license.

David "Bakes" Baker is an American professional poker player who has won a World Series of Poker bracelet and appeared at four World Series of Poker final tables. He also has a Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) championship. Baker currently has over US$2 million in tournament winnings. In order to avoid confusion with David "ODB" Baker, he is listed in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) database by the name "David Bakes Baker" and listed at Bluff Magazine as "David (Bakes) Baker". Baker, who is from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, attended Michigan State University before taking up poker.

RegulonDB is a database of the regulatory network of gene expression in Escherichia coli K-12. RegulonDB also models the organization of the genes in transcription units, operons and regulons. A total of 120 sRNAs with 231 total interactions which all together regulate 192 genes are also included. RegulonDB was founded in 1998 and also contributes data to the EcoCyc database.
