40oz. to Freedom is the 1992 debut album by the Southern California ska-punk band Sublime released by Skunk Records and again by MCA. 40oz. to Freedom received mixed critical reviews upon its first release but has earned an improved public perception since. Sublime would not achieve any mainstream success until the release of their eponymous album in 1996, two months after the death of their lead singer and guitarist, Bradley Nowell. As of 2011, the album has certified sales of two million copies in the US and is Sublime's second best-selling studio album there. Along with The Offspring's 1994 album Smash, 40oz. to Freedom is one of the highest-selling independently released albums of all time.
Ska punk is a fusion genre that mixes ska music and punk rock music together. Ska-core is a subgenre of ska punk that mixes ska with hardcore punk. Early ska punk mixed both 2 Tone and ska with hardcore punk. Ska punk tends to feature brass instruments, especially horns such as saxophones, trombones and trumpets, making the genre distinct from other forms of punk rock. It is closely tied to third wave ska which reached its zenith in the mid 1990s.

Bradley James Nowell was an American musician and the lead singer and guitarist of the ska punk band Sublime. His father took him on a trip to Jamaica during his childhood years, which exposed him to reggae and dancehall music; he then gained a strong interest in rock music once he learned how to play guitar.

Although this is technically a compilation album, it features some unreleased material as well as recycled and remixed versions of previous tracks. It is also regarded as their final album. Even though the surviving members of Sublime stated that the band would not make any more albums after Nowell's death, which would result in the band's breakup, MCA bound them by their contract and made the remaining members follow out their contract with the next 3 albums. Instead of recording more albums with Sublime, Wilson and Gaugh would record together in their later projects Long Beach Dub Allstars and Sublime with Rome.

Wonders of the World is the second album from dub band Long Beach Dub Allstars. It was released on September 11, 2001, and was the final album from the band. The band members were: Ras 1 ; Tim Wu ; Jack Maness ; Opie Ortiz (vocals); Marshall Goodman ; Eric Wilson (bass); Bud (drums). It was recorded at Total Access Studios, in Redondo Beach, California. "Sunny Hours" was used as the theme song to the Friends' spin-off sitcom, Joey.
Eric John Wilson is the former bass player for Sublime (1988–1996) and also bassist for Long Beach Dub Allstars (1997–2002). He was the bassist for the band Long Beach Shortbus, which was composed of several members of Long Beach Dub Allstars and Sublime. Since 2009, Wilson has been the bassist for Sublime with Rome, a musical collaboration between Wilson and singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez.
Michael "Miguel" Happoldt is an American musician who co-founded the Skunk Records record label and worked extensively with the US rock/reggae groups Sublime and Long Beach Dub Allstars. After LBDA's split in 2002, he played in the supergroup Volcano under the pseudonym "Mike Stand," with ex-Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh; he also produced the band's eponymous album. Happoldt went on to play guitar and sing in the band Perro Bravo with Mudd Lowther on drums and Mike Long on bass. In 2017, Long Beach Dub Allstars reconvened, playing shows in California, Nevada, and Florida.
RAS-1 is a musician (guitarist/singer) who was in the band Long Beach Shortbus with former Sublime bassist Eric Wilson and Willard "trey" Pangborn of Falling Idols, along with drummer Damien Ramirez. RAS-1 was also a member of Long Beach Dub Allstars along with Eric Wilson and former Sublime drummer Bud Gaugh.
Sublime was an American ska punk band from Long Beach, California, formed in 1988. The band's line-up, unchanged until their breakup, consisted of Bradley Nowell, Eric Wilson (bass), and Bud Gaugh (drums). Lou Dog, Nowell's dalmatian, was the mascot of the band. Nowell died of a heroin overdose in 1996, resulting in Sublime's breakup. Sublime with Rome is a musical collaboration between Eric Wilson, formerly of the American ska punk band Sublime, and singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez. The group's name is not only a reference to the singer's first name, but to the fact that they chiefly perform songs by the original Sublime, which was fronted by Bradley Nowell until his death in 1996.
Yours Truly is the debut album by rock group Sublime with Rome, which was released on July 12, 2011. It is the first album since the original Sublime disbanded in 1996, due to lead singer and guitarist Bradley Nowell's death. According to the liner notes, the album is dedicated to him. After the break up, its surviving members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh reformed Sublime in 2009 almost by accident, with Rome Ramirez filling in for Nowell. However, the group were unable to use the name Sublime for legal reasons, which resulted in the birth of Sublime with Rome. After embarking on their first US tour in 2010, Sublime with Rome signed with the record label Fueled by Ramen and went to work on its first full-length studio album. Guitarist Paul Leary of Butthole Surfers, who co-produced Sublime's eponymous final album, produced it.
