Opposites Attract (working title Running Mates) is a 1990 American made-for-television romantic comedy film starring Barbara Eden and John Forsythe. It originally aired as the NBC Wednesday Night Movie on NBC on October 17, 1990.
A former cowboy movie star Rex Roper (John Forsythe) decides to run for Mayor of Crescent Bay, California. He hopes that if he wins the election, he will be able to install his hot tub, a plan that Town Supervisor Charlene McKeon (Barbara Eden) had previously nixed due to the area's water shortage.
Charlene is also running for Mayor, pitting her solid reputation, vigilant community membership and homespun values against Rex's popularity, megabucks and media savvy. Before the election, Rex and Charlene have created their own political scandal when the two opponents find themselves falling in love.

Robert Martin Culp was an American actor and screenwriter widely known for his work in television. Culp earned an international reputation for his role as Kelly Robinson on I Spy (1965–1968), the espionage television series in which co-star Bill Cosby and he played secret agents. Before this, he starred in the CBS/Four Star Western series Trackdown as Texas Ranger Hoby Gilman in 71 episodes from 1957 to 1959. The 1980s brought him back to television as FBI Agent Bill Maxwell on The Greatest American Hero. Later, he had a recurring role as Warren Whelan on Everybody Loves Raymond, and was a voice actor for various computer games, including Half-Life 2. Culp gave hundreds of performances in a career spanning more than 50 years.

John F. McKeon is an American Democratic Party politician who represents the 27th Legislative District in the New Jersey Senate, which primarily covers the western portion of Essex County. McKeon previously served in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2002 to 2024, where he was Assistant Majority Whip (2004–05), Assistant Majority Leader (2006–07), Majority Whip (2008–09), Deputy Speaker (2010–11) and was the Parliamentarian from 2022 to 2024. McIlvaine. It was Loretta Young's final theater-released film, as she switched to television work after this movie. The film cost $617,085 to make, with Young receiving $75,000 for her appearance. After It Happens Every Thursday, Young took a 33-year hiatus from film work of any kind until 1986 when she starred in the TV movie Christmas Eve directed by Stuart Cooper.
