Orange Beach Sportsplex

The Orange Beach Sportsplex is a sports complex in Orange Beach, Alabama that was built in 2001.

Orange Beach is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 Census, the population was 5,441.

The focus of the complex is the 1,500-seat stadium. The stadium has hosted the SEC Women's Soccer Tournament and has completed negotiations to host the tournament through 2020.^[1] The facility also hosts the NCAA Division II men's and women's soccer tournaments. Currently the stadium hosts the Alabama Lightning of the North American Football League.

The SEC Women's Soccer Tournament is the conference championship tournament in college soccer for the Southeastern Conference (SEC).

Division II is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III.

The North American Football League (NAFL) was a proposed American spring football league. In 2014, the league announced it was to begin play for the 2016 season, however, there have been no further announcements that the league has met any of their listed key dates as of April 1, 2016.

Aside from the stadium, the sportsplex is home to baseball, softball, and youth sports leagues.

Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two opposing teams who take turns batting and fielding. The game proceeds when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball which a player on the batting team tries to hit with a bat. The objectives of the offensive team are to hit the ball into the field of play, and to run the bases—having its runners advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called "runs". The objective of the defensive team is to prevent batters from becoming runners, and to prevent runners' advance around the bases. A run is scored when a runner legally advances around the bases in order and touches home plate. The team that scores the most runs by the end of the game is the winner.

Softball is a game similar to baseball played with a larger ball on a field that has base lengths of 60 feet, a pitcher's mound that ranges from 35–43 feet away from home plate, and a homerun fence that is 220 feet away from home plate. It was invented in 1887 in Chicago, Illinois, United States as an indoor game. The game moves at a faster pace than traditional baseball. There is less time for the base runner to get to first while the opponent fields the ball; yet, the fielder has less time to field the ball while the opponent is running down to first base. The name softball was given to the game in 1926, because the ball used to be soft, however in modern day usage, the balls are hard.

The city of Orange Beach has announced plans to upgrade lighting on the championship field as part of the tournament contract. ^[1]

The facility features four FIFA certified playing fields, an adventure course with ropes and zip lines, and a 1,500 seat stadium. The stadium, Cropp Metcalfe Park, is a three-story stadium with bleacher seating, locker rooms, and broadcast quality lighting. "The Cropp" also features a BBQ restaurant, VIP Skybox, a covered center concourse, offices, and a small pro shop.

The 2018 Arkansas Razorbacks women's soccer team represents the University of Arkansas during the 2018 NCAA Division I women's soccer season. This season is the 33rd in program history. The Razorbacks play their home games at Razorback Field in Fayetteville.

The 2018 SEC Women's Soccer Tournament was the postseason women's soccer tournament for the SEC. The Texas A&M Aggies were the defending champions, but they were eliminated from the 2018 tournament with a 2–1 loss to the South Carolina Gamecocks in the quarterfinals. The LSU Tigers won the tournament title via a penalty kick shootout win over the Arkansas Razorbacks in the final. This was the first SEC women's soccer tournament title for LSU, and the first for coach Brian Lee.
