Orange County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the history of Orange County, California. It was incorporated on May 28, 1919. [1] [2] Dormant during World War II, the Society reestablished in 1961. [3]
The Society published Orange County Medical History (1927), [4] [5] the Centennial Bibliography of Orange County (1989), Don Meadows’ The House of Bernardo Yorba (1963), Wayne Gibson’s The Olive Mill (1975), and Virginia Carpenter’s Cañada de la Brea: Ghost Rancho (1978). [3]
In 1973, the Society launched the journal Orange Countiana. [6] It is currently published annually, in the fall. This publication is open for submission of articles of up to 5,000 words about any aspect of the history of Orange County.
OCHS has amassed an archive collection of historic material available for scholarly research. The OCHS also has a 1200-volume reference library. [7]
The OCHS photograph collection includes approximately 6000 photos, some of which have been uploaded to Flickr. [8]
OCHS archives a growing collection of articles and resources for Orange County history, including early publications of the Society, [9] previously published articles from a variety of sources and reproductions of early promotional brochures and other historic publications. [10]
OCHS is open to public membership, which supports their programming, events, archives and publications. Members receive the monthly County Courier newsletter with information about scheduled upcoming events, local history articles, and annual Orange Countiana journal.

The California Botanic Garden is a botanical garden in Claremont, California, in the United States, just south of the San Gabriel foothills. The garden, at 86 acres (35 ha), is the largest botanic garden in the state dedicated to California native plants. The Bowers Museum is an art museum located in Santa Ana, California. The museum's permanent collection includes more than 100,000 objects, and features notable strengths in the areas of pre-Columbian Mesoamerica, Native American art, the art of Asia, Africa, and Oceania, and California plein-air painting. The Bowers organizes and hosts special exhibitions from institutions throughout the world, and travels exhibitions nationally and internationally. The museum has a second campus two blocks south of the main site, Kidseum, a children's museum with a focus on art and archaeology. The Bowers Museum and Kidseum are located in Santa Ana 6.4 km south of Disneyland.

The Yost Theater is a concert and events venue in Santa Ana, California. It is a National Register of Historic Places-listed building located in Santa Ana's Downtown Historic District. Under the ownership of the Olivos Family it became a movie house for the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema. In recent years it housed various church organizations and underwent renovation in 2007. It is currently an event venue that hosts such functions as concerts, Ted Talks, school dances, and weddings.
Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum is an 1889 Queen Anne style home in Santa Ana, California. It was the home of Dr. Willella Howe-Waffle, one of the first female physicians in Orange County, California, until her death in 1924.

Newland House is an 1898 farmhouse in a midwestern adaptation of a Queen Anne architectural style in Huntington Beach, California, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is one of 123 historic places and districts on the National Register of Historic Places in Orange County, California. The Newland House is listed as the ninth historic place to receive a historical plaque from the Orange County Historical Commission in cooperation with the Orange County Board of Supervisors. The house has been identified as the site of the Tongva village of Lupukngna.
The Lydia D. Killefer School in Orange, California, was constructed in 1931 and listed in 2015 on the National Register of Historic Places administered by the National Park Service. The National Park Service notes the school's significance under Criterion A "as an example of institutional development associated with the early twentieth century growth of the Cypress Street Barrio in Orange". Killefer School also is noted by the National Park Service as significant under Criterion C (Architecture) as a rare extant "example of a Spanish Colonial Revival schoolhouse in Southern California" which survived the 1933 Long Beach earthquake.
Jennie Belle Lasby Tessmann was an American spectroscopist and college educator. She was a "human computer" at Mount Wilson Observatory from 1906 to 1913, the first woman research assistant at the observatory. She taught astronomy and history at Santa Ana College from 1919 to 1946.
