Orange Goblin/Alabama Thunderpussy is a split EP by heavy metal bands Orange Goblin and Alabama Thunderpussy, released via Eccentric Man Records in 2000. Both bands contributed a cover version of a 1970s hard rock/proto metal band; Orange Goblin covered Leaf Hound while Alabama Thunderpussy covered Captain Beyond. The album art is an engraving of Stede Bonnet from the 1724 book A General History of the Pyrates .

Leaf Hound are an English hard rock band formed in 1970, which formed out of a heavy blues rock band called Black Cat Bones. Their 1971 debut album Growers of Mushroom, is cited as a mixture of heavy metal, hard rock, psychedelic rock and stoner rock, and influenced those genres. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal, hard rock, psychedelic rock and stoner rock. They disbanded not long after recording the album. Vocalist Peter French reformed the band with a new lineup in 2004 and they released a studio album in 2007 and a live album in 2014.

Acrimony have maintained a cult following in the British metal scene, their records reportedly selling for vast sums as collectors items. AllMusic described their musical style as a "powerful blend of Black Sabbath’s heavy metal riffery, Hawkwind's space rock excursions, and Blue Cheer's fuzzed-out psychedelic feedback." In 2019, Kerrang! listed Acrimony as part of "20 bands who didn't get the respect they deserved".

The Big Black is the third full-length album by British stoner metal band Orange Goblin, released in 2000 on Rise Above Records. The LP version, along with the US domestic CD, was released by The Music Cartel. In 2004, Rise Above re-released the album and included a bonus track, a cover of Black Sabbath's "Into the Void". This track is also included on the original Japanese version.

Emissions from the Monolith was an annual heavy metal festival that primarily featured doom metal and sludge metal bands, and was widely considered to be the premier heavy/doom/sludge metal festival in the US.
