The Order of the Polar Star (Norwegian : Polarstjerneordenen; abbreviated PSO), established in 1894, is a private order in Norway. It is granted to persons who with significance have contributed to the development or the protection of Norwegian art and cultural heritage.
The Order of the Polar Star was established by Mikkel Dobloug on 18 October 1894, his 50th birthday. In 1997 the Order was revitalised by Dobloug's great-great-grandson Christian Mikkel Dobloug.
Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was among the first receivers of the Order. Among recent years' receivers are prominent persons in Norway, among others Carl Nicolaus of Wedel Jarlsberg and Stein Erik Hagen. [1]

Tarjei Vesaas was a Norwegian poet and novelist. Vesaas is widely considered to be one of Norway's greatest writers of the twentieth century and perhaps its most important since World War II.
Polar Star Expeditions was a specialty adventure cruise company owned by Karlsen Shipping Company Ltd. out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. In 2001, Polar Star began operating a single expedition cruise ship, MV Polar Star, a 87-metre (284 ft) converted Swedish icebreaker with 105 berths. The company conducted cruises mainly in the northern and southern polar and sub-polar regions.
Jason was a Norwegian whaling vessel laid down in 1881 by Rødsverven in Sandefjord, Norway, the same shipyard which later built Ernest Shackleton's ship Endurance. The ship, financed by Christen Christensen, an entrepreneur from Sandefjord, was noted for his participation in an 1892-1893 Antarctic expedition led by Carl Anton Larsen.
Vang is a former municipality in the old Hedmark county, Norway. The 327-square-kilometre (126 sq mi) municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1992 when it became part of Hamar Municipality. The administrative centre of the municipality was at Fredvang. This site, however became part of the town of Hamar in 1946, so after that time, the municipal administration was actually located outside the municipal borders in the neighboring municipality.
