Oregon Iron Works, Inc. (OIW) is a United States-based manufacturer of complex structural components and systems and specialized vehicles, located in the Clackamas area in the southeastern suburbs of Portland, Oregon (within the Portland metropolitan area). Established in 1944, it is involved in a number of different industries, supplying products ranging from high-speed boats for military use to purpose-built girders for roadway bridges. It has production facilities in Clackamas and in Vancouver, Washington, [4] and currently employs about 400 people. In May 2014, the company announced that it was merging with Portland-based Vigor Industrial. [5] [6]
In 2007, the company entered the field of streetcar (tram) manufacturing, after being awarded a contract, in January 2007, by the City of Portland for the provision of a prototype U.S.-manufactured streetcar for the Portland Streetcar system. [2] The company had signed a technology transfer agreement with Škoda, of the Czech Republic, in February 2006, enabling it to offer to build the already existing Škoda 10 T design, under license from the Czech manufacturer. [7] Upon being awarded the contract, OIW created a new subsidiary, United Streetcar, LLC, for its streetcar manufacturing activity. The prototype streetcar was completed and delivered in mid-2009, and in August 2009 United Streetcar received a contract from the City of Portland for another six 10T streetcars. [8] The announcement of a second order for production-series vehicles soon followed, from the City of Tucson, Arizona. [9] Washington D.C. also ordered two cars from United in April 2012 [10] and a third in August 2012.
MAX Light Rail is a light rail system in Portland, Oregon, United States, that is owned and operated by TriMet. It consists of 94 stations over a 59.7-mile (96.1 km) network and is served by five lines, each of which is designated by a color. The system connects all six sections of Portland; the suburban communities of Beaverton, Clackamas, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Milwaukie; and Portland International Airport to Portland City Center. MAX is the fourth-busiest light rail system in the United States after comparable light rail services in Los Angeles, Boston, and San Francisco. The system had an average daily ridership of 120,900 and nearly 39 million annual riders in 2019. Lines run seven days a week with headways of between 30 minutes off-peak and three minutes during rush hours.
Milwaukie is a city mostly in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States; a very small portion of the city extends into Multnomah County. The population was 20,291 at the 2010 census. Founded in 1847 on the banks of the Willamette River, the city, known as the Dogwood City of the West, was incorporated in 1903 and is the birthplace of the Bing cherry. The city is now a suburb of Portland and also adjoins the unincorporated areas of Clackamas and Oak Grove.
The Portland Streetcar is a streetcar system in Portland, Oregon, that opened in 2001 and serves areas surrounding downtown Portland. The 3.9-mile (6.3 km) NS Line runs from Northwest Portland to the South Waterfront via Downtown and the Pearl District. The Loop Service, which opened in September 2012 as the Central Loop, runs from Downtown to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry via the Pearl District, the Broadway Bridge across Willamette River, the Lloyd District, and the Central Eastside Industrial District and added 3.3 miles (5.3 km) of route. In September 2015 the line was renamed as the Loop Service, with the A Loop traveling clockwise, and the B Loop traveling counterclockwise. The two-route system serves some 20,000 daily riders.
Portland Community College (PCC) is a public community college in Portland, Oregon. It is the largest community college in the state and serves 1.9 million residents in the five-county area of Multnomah, Washington, Yamhill, Clackamas, and Columbia counties. PCC enrolls over 83,000 students annually in this area of 1,500 square miles (3,900 km2) in northwest Oregon.
Vigor Shipyards was founded in 1916 as the William H. Todd Corporation through the merger of Robins Dry Dock & Repair Company of Erie Basin, Brooklyn, New York, the Tietjen & Long Dry Dock Company of Hoboken, New Jersey, and the Seattle Construction and Dry Dock Company. The Seattle shipyard could trace its history back to 1882, when Robert Moran opened a marine repair shop at Yesler's Wharf. This shop became the Moran Brothers Shipyard in 1906 and the Seattle Construction & Dry Dock Company at the end of 1911.
The Old Portland Underground, better known locally as the Shanghai Tunnels, is a group of passages in Portland, Oregon, United States, mainly underneath the Old Town Chinatown neighborhood and connecting to the main business section. The tunnels connected the basements of many hotels and taverns to the waterfront of the Willamette River. They were originally built to move goods from the ships docked on the Willamette to the basement storage areas, allowing businesses to avoid streetcar and train traffic on the streets when delivering their goods.
The MAX Green Line is a light rail service in Portland, Oregon, United States, operated by TriMet as part of the MAX Light Rail system. It extends from downtown Portland to the eastside community of Clackamas, connecting Portland State University (PSU), Portland City Center, the Northeast and Southeast sections of Portland, and Clackamas Town Center. The line is 15 miles (24.1 km) long and serves 30 stations between the PSU South stations and Clackamas Town Center Transit Center. It is the only service that shares parts of its alignment with the four other MAX services. It shares the Portland Transit Mall with the Orange Line and the Yellow Line, and the Banfield segment of the Eastside MAX with the Blue Line and the Red Line. Southbound from Gateway/Northeast 99th Avenue Transit Center, the Green Line serves an exclusive segment along Interstate 205 (I-205), referred to as the I-205 MAX. Service runs for approximately 211⁄2 hours daily with a headway of 15 minutes during most of the day. The line is the third busiest in the system, carrying an average of 20,640 riders per day on weekdays in September 2018.
The MAX Orange Line is a light rail service in Portland, Oregon, United states, operated by TriMet as part of the MAX Light Rail system. It connects Portland City Center in the north to Portland State University (PSU), Southeast Portland, Milwaukie, and Oak Grove in the south. The line originates near Portland Union Station and runs as a southbound only service of the Portland Transit Mall on 5th Avenue. From there, it travels a total of 7.3 miles (11.7 km) through the South Waterfront, across the Willamette River into Southeast Portland, and further south to Oak Grove, just outside of Milwaukie proper in unincorporated Clackamas County. The line serves 17 stations between Union Station/Northwest 5th & Glisan and Southeast Park Avenue. Service runs for approximately 21 hours daily with a minimum headway of 15 minutes during most of the day.
The South Waterfront is a high-rise district under construction on former brownfield industrial land in the South Portland neighborhood south of downtown Portland, Oregon, U.S. It is one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in the United States. It is connected to downtown Portland by the Portland Streetcar and MAX Orange Line, and to the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) main campus atop Marquam Hill by the Portland Aerial Tram, as well as roads to Interstate 5 and Oregon Route 43.

TriQuint Semiconductor was a semiconductor company that designed, manufactured, and supplied high-performance RF modules, components and foundry services. The company was founded in 1985 in Beaverton, Oregon before moving to neighboring Hillsboro, Oregon. In February 2014, Greensboro, North Carolina-based RF Micro Devices and TriQuint announced a merger in which the new company would be Qorvo, Inc., with the merger completed on January 1, 2015.
United Streetcar, LLC, was an American manufacturer of modern streetcars, located in the Clackamas area in the southeastern suburbs of Portland, Oregon, founded in 2005. It was the only U.S. company building modern streetcars—as distinct from light rail cars or new replicas of historic streetcars—until 2013, when Brookville received its first order for a modern streetcar, for the Dallas Streetcar.

Sun Link, also known as the Tucson Streetcar, is a single-line streetcar system in Tucson, Arizona, United States, that began service in July 2014. The system's 3.9-mile (6.3 km) route connects the Arizona Health Sciences Center, the University of Arizona campus, the Main Gate and 4th Avenue shopping and entertainment districts, downtown Tucson, the Tucson Convention Center, and the Mercado District under development west of Interstate 10. The streetcar project's overall cost of $196 million was met through a combination of local funding sources and federal grants. The streetcar shares a common payment system with the Sun Tran regional bus service.
Vigor Industrial (Vigor) is an American shipbuilding, shiprepair, and industrial service provider in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. Based in Portland, Oregon, the company consists of several subsidiary companies for a combined total of seven facilities with ten drydocks, more than 17,000 feet of pier space, and over 2,000 employees.
The Loop Service is a streetcar circle route in Portland, Oregon, United States, that is part of the Portland Streetcar system. Operated by Portland Streetcar, Inc. and TriMet, it consists of two distinct services: the 6.1-mile (9.8 km) A Loop, which runs clockwise, and the 6.6-mile (10.6 km) B Loop, which runs counterclockwise. Each service travels a loop on both sides of the Willamette River, crossing it on the Broadway Bridge in the north and Tilikum Crossing in the south. The route connects Portland's downtown, Pearl District, Lloyd District, Central Eastside, and South Waterfront. It serves the city's various landmarks and institutions, including the Rose Quarter, the Oregon Convention Center, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), and Portland State University (PSU).
