The Orion Amphitheater is an amphitheatre in the MidCity District of Huntsville, Alabama.

The amphitheater, which cost $40 million to build, is owned by the city of Huntsville. [2] It was designed by David M. Schwarz Architects, Inc., [3] and is run by the Huntsville Venue Group, a division of Mumford & Sons keyboardist Ben Lovett's Venue Group. [4]

The amphitheater opened in 2022, on the weekend of May 13th through 15th. The grand opening event, titled "The First Waltz", featured performances by Brittany Howard, the Drive-By Truckers, Emmylou Harris, Jason Isbell, John Paul White, Mavis Staples, St. Paul and The Broken Bones, and others. In 2024, the Orion Amphitheater was nominated for the Outdoor Concert Venue of the Year award in Pollstar's 36th annual awards. [5]

Artist garden

The Orion staff manage a garden located in a small meadow behind the amphitheater. The fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are grown in the garden are used in on-site catering and cocktails. The garden is also used as a place for relaxation by Orion staff and visiting musical artists. [6]

Orion manager Ryan Murphy had previously established a similar garden at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in Florida while he was a manager there. [6]

FivePoint Amphitheatre was an amphitheatre at the Orange County Great Park in Irvine, California. It opened in 2017 as a replacement for the defunct Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre. With 6,500 bleacher seats, 280 VIP seats, and an approximate 5,500 standing room spaces, it was the largest amphitheatre in Orange County by overall capacity and second-largest in seated capacity, only behind the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa. The site is owned by real estate development group FivePoint and was operated by Los Angeles–based concert promoter Live Nation. The facility consisted of three temporary bleacher sections and a temporary stage with future plans to establish a more permanent amphitheatre on the Great Park premises.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Quarry Amphitheater</span> Amphitheater on UC Santa Cruz campus

The Quarry Amphitheater is a 2,800 capacity outdoor events and concert venue located on the campus of University of California Santa Cruz. First used as a major supplier of limestone in the 1800s, the quarry would be repurposed as an amphitheater during the construction of UC Santa Cruz in the early 1960s. Since then, it has gone through a major reconstruction in 2017 and has become home to a number of campus events as well as hosting major musical acts as the largest outdoor venue in Santa Cruz County. Acts who have performed include Chicano Batman, Carla Morrison, and Orion Sun.
