<i>Tora! Tora! Tora!</i> 1970 film about the attack on Pearl Harbor

Tora! Tora! Tora! is a 1970 epic war film that dramatizes the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, from the American and Japanese positions. The film was produced by Elmo Williams and directed by Richard Fleischer, Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku, and stars an ensemble cast including Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, So Yamamura, E.G. Marshall, James Whitmore, Tatsuya Mihashi, Takahiro Tamura, Wesley Addy, and Jason Robards. It was Masuda and Fukasaku's first English-language film, and first international co-production. The tora of the title, although literally meaning "tiger", is actually an abbreviation of a two-syllable codeword, used to indicate that complete surprise had been achieved.

Mitsutoshi Furuya was a Japanese manga artist. He made his debut as a manga artist in 1955 with kashi-hon manga. He started as an assistant of Osamu Tezuka in 1958, but was primarily known for starting out as an assistant of Fujio Akatsuka five years later. He was best known for his series Dame Oyaji, which gained notoriety by giving a darkly humorous send-up of Japanese family life with a meek, pathetic father married to a cruel and savage wife. The series received the 1979 Shogakukan Manga Award for shōnen, was adapted into a movie in 1973 and as an anime television series in 1974.

Yoshirō Muraki was a Japanese production designer, art director, and costume designer. Muraki joined Toho Film studio in 1944. He was nominated three times for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction for his work in the films Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), Kagemusha (1980), and Ran (1985). He was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design for his work in Yojimbo (1961). He is most well known for his collaborations with director Akira Kurosawa, having done work on all of Kurosawa's films from Record of a Living Being (1955) onward, with the exception of Dersu Uzala (1975). He was married to Shinobu Muraki.

Richard Day was a Canadian art director in the film industry. He won seven Academy Awards and was nominated for a further 13 in the category of Best Art Direction. He worked on 265 films between 1923 and 1970. He was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and died in Hollywood, California.

Carl Francis Biddiscombe was a Canadian-American set decorator. He was nominated for two Academy Awards in the category Best Art Direction for the films Gaily, Gaily and Tora! Tora! Tora!. Biddiscombe was buried in Pacific View Memorial Park, alongside his wife.

Born and raised in Okinawa, Wayama made her debut as a manga artist in 2015 while a student in the manga program at Tokyo Polytechnic University. Her doujinshiCaptivated, by You became a critical and commercial success after being acquired and published by the publishing house Enterbrain, winning the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in the Short Work category and the New Face Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival Awards. Her other series include Let's Go Karaoke! and Onna no Sono no Hoshi.
