Otto Gerson was a German-born American art dealer (1902-1962)
Born in Germany, Gerson immigrated to the United States, where he met and married Ilse Goehler in 1939. They both became U.S. citizens and owned several art dealerships in New York, including Fine Arts Associates and Gerson Gallery [1] located at 41 East 57th Street in New York City which later merged with another gallery to form the Marlborough-Gerson Gallery around 1963, shortly after Otto Gerson's death. [2] [3] [4]
Gerson held numerous exhibitions and printed many art catalogues. [5] [6] [7] Art dealer Jane Wade worked for Otto Gerson and played an important role in the success of the gallery. [8] [9]
Artworks sold by Gerson are in many museums, including the Detroit Institute of Art, [10] the Kimbell Art Museum, [11] the Norton Simon Museum, [12] [13] the MoMa, [14] [15] the Cleveland Museum of Art, [16] the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, [17] the National Gallery of Art [18] and many others.

Although the mode of transfer of the Kirchner painting from Galerie Grosshennig to Otto Gerson Gallery is unclear, it occurred quickly, as the painting appears in a 1957 exhibition mounted by Gerson. T
