P. J. Yeager was an American politician who served in the Oklahoma Senate from statehood in 1907 until 1911.
P. J. Yeager was born in Columbus,Ohio on April 10,1859. He moved to Guthrie,Illinois at age 20 and opened a general store. In 1895,he moved to Arkansas and he moved again in 1902 to Tahlequah,Cherokee Nation. In 1904,his family settled in Tulsa where he was elected as an alderman in 1906. [1] He was elected to the 1st Oklahoma Legislature as a member of the Democratic Party representing Tulsa County in the Oklahoma Senate from 1907 until 1911. [1] [2] He ran for Lieutenant Governor of Oklahoma in the 1910 Oklahoma elections. [1]
The governor of Oklahoma is the head of government of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Under the Oklahoma Constitution,the governor serves as the head of the Oklahoma executive branch,of the government of Oklahoma. The governor is the ex officio commander-in-chief of the Oklahoma National Guard when not called into federal use. Lee Cruce was an American lawyer,banker and the second governor of Oklahoma. Losing to Charles N. Haskell in the 1907 Democratic primary election to serve as the first governor of Oklahoma,Cruce successfully campaigned to succeed Haskell to serve as the second governor of Oklahoma. As governor,Cruce was responsible for the establishment of the Oklahoma Department of Highways and the Oklahoma State Capitol. He worked hard to enforce prohibitions on alcohol and gambling,going so far as to use the state militia to stop horse racing. He was succeeded by Robert L. Williams.
John Calloway Walton was an American politician and the fifth governor of Oklahoma. He served the shortest term of any Governor of Oklahoma,being the first Governor in the state's history to be removed from office.
George Laird Shoup was an American politician who served as the first governor of Idaho,in addition to its last territorial governor. He served several months after statehood in 1890 and then became one of the state's first United States Senators.

Charles Nathaniel Haskell was an American lawyer,oilman,and politician who was the first governor of Oklahoma. As a delegate to Oklahoma's constitutional convention in 1906,he played a crucial role in drafting the Oklahoma Constitution and gaining Oklahoma's admission into the United States as the 46th state in 1907. A prominent businessman in Muskogee,he helped the city grow in importance. He represented the city as a delegate in both the 1906 Oklahoma convention and an earlier convention in 1905 that was a failed attempt to create a U.S. state of Sequoyah.
John William Elmer Thomas was a native of Indiana who moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1901,where he practiced law in Lawton. After statehood,he was elected to the first state senate,representing the Lawton area. In 1922,he ran successfully on the Democratic Party ticket for the U.S. House of Representatives from Oklahoma. He was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1926;he won this race and held the seat until 1950,when he lost the party nomination to A.S. (Mike) Monroney. Thomas returned to a private law practice in Washington,D.C.,and in 1957 moved his practice back to Lawton,where he died in 1965.
James Howard Edmondson was an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma. He served as the 16th governor of Oklahoma from 1959 to 1963,and the appointed United States Senator from Oklahoma from 1963 to 1964,losing to Fred R. Harris in a 1964 Democratic primary election for the U.S. Senate. When he took office as Governor of Oklahoma at the age of 33,Edmondson was,and still is,the youngest governor in the history of the state.

Some states elected their senators directly even before passage of Seventeenth Amendment. Oregon pioneered direct election and experimented with different measures over several years until it succeeded in 1907. Soon after,Nebraska followed suit and laid the foundation for other states to adopt measures reflecting the people's will. By 1912,as many as 29 states elected senators either as nominees of their party's primary or in conjunction with a general election.

Brian John Bingman is an American politician from the U.S. state of Oklahoma who has served in elected and appointed offices since the 1990s. A member of the Republican Party,he was first elected to the Sapulpa city commission in 1992,before being elected mayor by his fellow commissioners in 1994. He would serve in both of these offices until 2004,when he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives to represent the 30th district. After one term in the house,Bingman ran for the 12th district of the Oklahoma Senate in 2006 and would hold the seat until term limited in 2016. In 2011,he was elected by Republican senators to serve as the President pro tempore of the Oklahoma Senate,a position he would hold until retirement in 2016.
The Third Oklahoma Legislature was a meeting of the legislative branch of the government of Oklahoma,composed of the Oklahoma Senate and the Oklahoma House of Representatives. The state legislature met in the Levy Building in Oklahoma City,beginning with a special session from November 28 to December 16,1910,during the end of Governor Charles Haskell's term and ending with a regular session from January 3 to March 11,1911,during the first year of the term of Governor Lee Cruce. The Democratic Party,which already held the majority of seats in the Oklahoma House of Representatives,further increased the number of seats they held after the 1910 election.
