Mājuli or Majuli is a river island in the Brahmaputra River, Assam and in 2016 it became the first island to be made a district in India. It had an area of 880 square kilometres (340 sq mi) at the beginning of the 20th century, but having lost significantly to erosion it covers 553 square kilometres (214 sq mi) as at 2014. Majuli has shrunk as the river surrounding it has grown.
Jorhat is an administrative district of the Indian state of Assam situated in the central part of the Brahmaputra Valley. The district is bounded by Majuli on north, Nagaland state on the south, Charaideo on the east and Golaghat on the west. On the north of the district, the river Brahmaputra forms the largest riverine island of the world. The administrative seat is at Jorhat city.
Sarbananda Sonowal is an Indian politician from Assam who is the current Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Minister of AYUSH in the Government of India. He is also a member of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs. He is a former Chief Minister of Assam and a former MLA in Assam Legislative Assembly. Sonowal earlier served as the Assam state President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 2012 to 2014 and again in 2015 to 2016. He has also served as the Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of India, from 2014 to 2016. He was chosen to be the Chief Minister of Assam after the 2016 Assam Legislative Assembly election and he became the first Chief Minister of the state from Bharatiya Janata Party. During the cabinet reshuffle on 7th July 2021, he was inducted to the 2nd Modi Cabinet.
Mising or Mishing, also known as Plains Miri, is a Tani language spoken by the Mising people. There are 517,170 speakers, who inhabit mostly the Lakhimpur, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Majuli, Golaghat, Tinsukia districts of Assam and also some parts of Arunachal Pradesh. The primary literary body of Mising is known as 'Mising Agom Kébang '.

Sanjoy Ghose was an Indian rural development activist known for his pioneering contributions to community health and development media. He is believed to have been killed by United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) militants in the river island of Majuli on the Brahmaputra river around 4 July 1997.
Upper – Assam is an administrative division of the state of Assam comprising the undivided Lakhimpur and Sivasagar districts, of the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra valley. Majuli is one of the 126 assembly constituencies of Assam a north east state of India. Majuli is also part of Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constituency. It is a reserved seat for the Scheduled tribes (ST). The seat is currently vacant as the former MLA Sarbananda Sonowal resigns for his Union Ministry.

Majuli University of Culture is a public state university located in Majuli, Assam dedicated for research, teaching and education in the field of culture. The university is established by Majuli University of Culture Bill, 2017 which was passed by the Government of Assam on 7 September 2017. On 13 July 2018 Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone for the state's first cultural university at Majuli to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore.
The Tuni River is a small tributary of the Brahmaputra River in the Indian state of Assam. Tuni river flows through the middle of the Majuli, the largest river island of the world. Sri Sri Bhogpur Satra, one of the several ancient Sattras of Assam is located near the Tuni river. Tuni river is also known as Bashistha Ganga.
