Painface was an American Death metal band that originally formed in 1997 in Des Moines, Iowa, by former Slipknot frontman Anders Colsefni. The band released an EP and an album but broke up in 2001, later reforming in 2011, and released another EP in 2013. The band broke up again in 2015.

Death metal is an extreme subgenre of heavy metal music. It typically employs heavily distorted and low-tuned guitars, played with techniques such as palm muting and tremolo picking, deep growling vocals, aggressive, powerful drumming featuring double kick and blast beat techniques, minor keys or atonality, abrupt tempo, key, and time signature changes, and chromatic chord progressions. The lyrical themes of death metal may invoke slasher film-stylized violence, religion, occultism, Lovecraftian horror, nature, mysticism, mythology, philosophy, science fiction, and politics, and they may describe extreme acts, including mutilation, dissection, torture, rape, cannibalism, and necrophilia.

History

Painface formed in late 1997 after Anders Colsefni left Slipknot earlier that year. [1] The band worked on an untitled demo EP between 1998-1999 for which fans adopted the name "On A Pale Horse", which later also included recordings from 2001. Later on in 1999 they recorded their first full-length album, FleshCraft .

Slipknot (band) American heavy metal band

Slipknot is an American heavy metal band from Des Moines, Iowa. The band was founded in 1995 by percussionist Shawn Crahan, drummer Joey Jordison and bassist Paul Gray. After several lineup changes in its early years, the band settled on nine members for more than a decade: Shawn Crahan, Joey Jordison, Paul Gray, Corey Taylor, Mick Thomson, Jim Root, Craig Jones, Sid Wilson, and Chris Fehn. Gray died on May 24, 2010, and was replaced during 2011–2014 by guitarist Donnie Steele. Jordison left the band due to illness on December 12, 2013. Steele left during the recording sessions for .5: The Gray Chapter. The band found replacements in Alessandro Venturella on bass and Jay Weinberg on drums. After the departure of Jordison, as of December 2013 the only founding member in the current lineup is percussionist Crahan.

The band reformed in 2011 as Painface, with a new line-up where only Colsefni was included from the original line-up. They announced a new album to be released as a 4-volume box set, titled Mortality, with the first volume "Concussion" to be released in spring 2012, which was then delayed for 2014 due to complications. On 27 January 2012 Painface returned to the stage for the first time in over 10 years. The band played with their new line-up at the Vaudeville Mews in their hometown of Des Moines, Iowa. A 4-track "Skullcrusher" EP was released in January 2014.

On 6 May 2015, guitarist Antonio 'Taco' Alaniz announced on his personal Facebook page that he was retiring from music, also saying that drummer Greg Stravers had left the band as well, news confirmed through the band's Facebook page, where it was announced that only Colsefni was left. He himself claimed to have retired from music, though in December 2016, he released a 12-second teaser of a new track titled GunSlinger.
