Pandit Niranjan Prasad (November 11, 1941 - March 31, 2013) was an Indian flutist [1] born in Allahabad.

Career

Prasad belonged to the Varanasi Gharana and was a disciple of the flute and Shehnai player, Pt Bholanath Prasanna. He was a flutist associated with the All India Radio Vadya Vrinda (National Orchestra). Prasad was also a Guru-Bhai of flutist Hariprasad Chaurasia. He performed at music festivals and conferences in India, America, Australia, Europe and the Middle East, including countries such as Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, and Bahrain. He made appearances on Indian national radio and television.[ citation needed ]

Prasad also played flute in many Indian films. From 1974 he was associated with National Orchestra A.I.R. New Delhi and retired from A.I.R. Lucknow in 2001. [2]

On the first anniversary of Prasad's death in 2014, "Niranjan Smriti", [3] a tribute, was organized at the Sangeet Natak Academy, Lucknow. His book on music, "Sadhna Ke Phool", was released at the event. Yamini Krishnamurthy, an Indian dancer, performed a dance along with her group. Other performances included flute recitals by Shri Saurabh Banaudha and Shri Rajshekhar Dalbehera. [4]
