Parirenyatwa General Hospital is a government founded district general hospital in Harare and is the largest public hospital in Zimbabwe. [1] The hospital was formerly known as the Andrew Fleming Hospital and was named after the principal medical officer to the British South Africa Company.
Following Zimbabwean independence in 1980, the hospital was renamed in honour of Tichafa Samuel Parirenyatwa (1927–1962), a close associate of Joshua Nkomo and the first black person from the country to qualify as a doctor of medicine.
As well as its general medical and surgical sections, the hospital includes Mbuya Nehanda, a maternity section; Sekuru Kaguvi, which specialises in eye treatment; and an annex for psychiatric patients and several specialist paediatric wards. It has in excess of 5000 beds and 12 theatres in the main hospital complex.
The College of Health Sciences of the University of Zimbabwe is based at Parirenyatwa. This is where the university's medical students train from third year onwards.
The hospital has a school of nursing within the complex, which has three intakes of general nurses per year for a three-year diploma in nursing and some post-basic courses in intensive/theatre nursing, community and primary care nursing, and ophthalmic nursing.
The hospital introduced a quality management program in hospitals in 2005, led by Thomas Zigora, Sydney Makarawo, Max Hove, and Kennedy Gombe, which proved a difference in the way of thinking in delivering health care services.[ citation needed ] The program is currently coordinated by Godwin Mseka.

Los Angeles General Medical Center is a 600-bed public teaching hospital located at 2051 Marengo Street in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, and one of the largest academic medical centers in the United States. The hospital facility is owned by Los Angeles County and operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. Doctors are faculty of the Keck School of Medicine of USC, who oversee more than 1,000 medical residents being trained by the faculty. The duration of the associate degree course for operating room and anesthesia is two years, a bachelor's degree in nursing is four years, a master's degree in nursing is two to two and a half years, and a doctorate degree in nursing is four to five years.
Belgravia is a mixed use residential suburb in the north of Harare, Zimbabwe. It is named for the eponymous commercial area of Belgravia in London. It is bounded by the larger neighbourhoods of Milton Park, Avondale and Kensington, to the south and northwest respectively, as well as Alexandra Park to the east. The suburb is can be considered a transitionary area between inner city districts like Milton Park and the leafier suburbs to the north.
Sally Mugabe Central Hospital also known as Harare Central Hospital/Gomo Hospital is the second largest public hospital in Zimbabwe after Parirenyatwa Hospital. The hospital is the main referral center for patients and casualties from the Northern half of Zimbabwe and is also the main services hospital for greater Harare residents.
