Despite being too slow to remain competitive as a bomber in the later years of World War II, it was one of the most flexible, reliable and important aircraft of the Regia Aeronautica from 1935 to 1944, and adapted to second-line duties in a wide range of tasks.

Major Robert Townshend Anwyl-Passingham OBE DL JP, was Deputy Inspector-General of Military Police in Burma and Double Company Commander of the 72nd Punjabis. He retired in 1907 but during World War I served as Assistant Director of Recruiting in Wrexham and later Assistant Director of National Service for North Wales; for his wartime service he was made OBE. A prominent figure in Merionethshire, Anwyl-Passingham served as a Justice of the Peace, Deputy Lieutenant and, in 1925, as High Sheriff of that county.
