The World Figure Skating Championships, commonly referred to as "Worlds", are an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union. Medals are awarded in men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dance. Generally held in March, the World Championships are considered to be the most prestigious of the ISU Figure Skating Championships. With the exception of the Olympic title, a world title is considered to be the highest competitive achievement in figure skating.
Tanith Jessica Louise Belbin White is a Canadian American ice dancer and Olympic program host for NBC Sports. Though born in Canada, she holds dual citizenship and has competed for the United States since she began skating with Benjamin Agosto in 1998. With Agosto, Belbin is the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, four-time World medalist, three-time Four Continents champion (2004–2006), and five-time U.S. champion (2004–2008).
Tai Reina Babilonia is an American former pair skater. Together with Randy Gardner, she won the 1979 World Figure Skating Championships and five U.S. Figure Skating Championships (1976–1980). The pair qualified for the 1976 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
Sabena Flight 548 was a Boeing 707-329 flight operated by Sabena that crashed en route from New York City to Brussels, Belgium on 15 February 1961. The flight, which had originated at Idlewild International Airport, crashed on approach to Brussels Airport, killing all 72 people on board and one person on the ground. The fatalities included the entire United States figure skating team, which was traveling to the World Figure Skating Championships in Prague, Czechoslovakia. The precise cause of the crash remains unknown; the most likely explanation was thought to be a failure of the mechanism that adjusts the tail stabilizer.
Naomi Nari Nam is an American former competitive figure skater who competed in both single skating and pair skating. As a single skater, she was the 1999 U.S. national silver medalist. As a pair skater, she was the 2006 Skate America bronze medalist and 2007 U.S. national bronze medalist with Themistocles Leftheris.
Tanja Szewczenko is a German former figure skater. She is the 1994 World bronze medalist, 1997 Champions Series Final silver medalist, 1998 European bronze medalist, and 1993 World Junior bronze medalist.
Jacqueline du Bief is a French retired figure skater who competed mainly in single skating. She is the 1952 Olympic bronze medalist, the 1952 World champion, a three-time European medalist, and a six-time French national champion (1947–1952).
Carolyn Mae Welch was an American figure skater. She competed in pairs and won the bronze medals at the 1947 U.S. Figure Skating Championships with partner Charles Brinkman.
Jennifer Don is a Taiwanese American figure skater who competed in both the pairs and singles disciplines. For most of her career, she represented the United States in competition. With partner Jonathon Hunt, she is the 2003 World Junior bronze medalist in pairs. As a single skater, she won the 2003 Nebelhorn Trophy, becoming the first woman to win a competition under the ISU International Judging System. In 2006, she represented Chinese Taipei. Jennifer is a PSA member and CER A certified.
John Patrick Coughlin was an American pair skater. With Caydee Denney, he was the 2012 Four Continents silver medalist and 2012 U.S. national champion. With previous partner Caitlin Yankowskas, he was the 2011 U.S. champion. Coughlin died by suicide, one day after the United States Center for SafeSport announced he would face an interim temporary suspension over unspecified allegations.
Deanna Stellato-Dudek is an American-Canadian pair skater who currently competes with Maxime Deschamps for Canada. With Deschamps, she is the 2024 World champion, the 2024 Four Continents champion, the 2023–24 Grand Prix Final bronze medalist, a three-time ISU Grand Prix gold medalist, a two-time ISU Challenger Series gold medalist, and a two-time Canadian national champion. She is the oldest female figure skater to win a World title in any discipline.
Amanda Evora is an American former competitive pair skater. She competed with Mark Ladwig. They are two-time U.S. silver medalists, 2012 U.S. bronze medalists and two-time U.S. pewter medalists.
Caitlin Yankowskas is an American retired pair skater. She competed for the United States with John Coughlin from 2007 to 2011. They are the 2010 Cup of China bronze medalists and 2011 U.S. national champions. With partner Hamish Gaman, Yankowskas skated for the United Kingdom. They are the 2015 Challenge Cup silver medalists and 2015 British national champions.
Marissa Castelli is an American retired pair skater. With her skating partner, Mervin Tran, she is the 2017 U.S. national silver medalist.
The 2012 Russian Figure Skating Championships was held from December 25–29, 2011 in Saransk. Skaters competed in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dancing.
Ashley Elizabeth Cain is a retired American pair skater. With her skating partner, Timothy LeDuc, she is a two-time U.S. national champion, the 2018 Four Continents silver medalist, and a two-time Grand Prix medalist. Earlier in her career, she also competed in single skating, becoming the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy bronze medalist and the 2012 U.S. Junior silver medalist.
Alexa Paige Knierim is an American pair skater. With her skating partner, Brandon Frazier, she is the 2022 World champion, the 2023 World silver medalist, a 2022 Olympic gold medalist in the figure skating team event, the 2022 Grand Prix Final silver medalist, a two-time U.S. National champion, and a three-time Grand Prix gold medalist.
Daniel "Danny" O'Shea is an American pair skater. He currently competes with Ellie Kam. With Kam, he is the 2024 Four Continents bronze medalist, 2024 Skate America silver medalist, 2024 NHK Trophy bronze medalist, 2024 CS John Nicks Pairs gold medalist, 2023 CS Finlandia Trophy gold medalist, and 2024 U.S. national champion.
Jodi Grace Barnes is a Canadian former pairs skater competing for Canadian Nationals for almost a decade. 1980's Canadian medalists included Jodi Barns and Rob Williams who competed for Canada. With former partner Rob Williams, she made her international debut at the 1987 Junior World ranking 7thArchived December 20, 2016, at the Wayback Machine in the World. Studied Business at Douglas College in Vancouver. In 1997 Barnes and Williams were selected to represent Canada in the 1997 in Jaca Spain for the World Professional Figure Skating Championships. After Barnes and Williams competitive career they went on tour as principal pairs. Barnes and Williams starred in Holiday on Ice, Feld Entertainment Willy Bietak Productions the leaders in the Ice Show Industry. After William retired Barnes continued pairs skating as a performance director for major ice productions as well as choreographing for international skaters Scarlett Rouzet & Yannick Bonheur and major ice productions. Barnes began her coaching career on the West Coast of the United States in 2008. Barnes is currently coaching at Panthers Figure Skating Club, Panthers Ice Den in Coral Springs, Florida.
