Paul Abrahams (born 21 October 1958) is an Australian musician and bass player for the Reels [1] [2]

Biography

Abrahams joined the Reels in 1978 and recorded 2 albums and 1 EP between 1979–1981. The basses used on those recordings was a 1962 Fender VI and 1968 Fender Precision fretless, he currently plays a 4-string Tony Franklin Signature Fender Precision Bass.

The Reels album Quasimodo's Dream and single of the same name was voted in 2001 by APRA in the Top Ten Most Influential Australian songs of the past 75 years. [3]

During the 1978–1981 period he worked as a session musician for MOJO Jimmy Sloggett with musician Tommy Emmanuel

1980–1981 – Art and music experiments with Brett Cabot Artist.

1984–1988 – Recording and writing at Kings Lane Studios with Chris Betro engineer. [4]

1984 played Drums for a trio called 'Rat Tat Tat' [5] with Peter Blakeley Vocals, Geoff Stapleton on Bass from The Aliens (Australian band) and GANGgajang.

During the Kings Lane Studio years, Paul Abrahams and Chris Bettro recorded an EP. Out of the many co writing ventures, one song, 'As we Speak' a co write with Robbie James of GANGgajang was recorded by Wendy Matthews on her first album Emigre. [6]

1986–1988 Played bass for Peter Blakeley [7] in 'The Resurrection' [8] with backing singer Wendy Matthews Mark Punch Guitar, Hughie Benjamin Drums, and Peter Kekel Keyboards / Geoff Stapleton Keyboards.

In 1991 played bass for Wendy Matthews during her support tour with The Neville Brothers. In 1991 played bass for James Blundell, Mick King (guitarist), Lee Kernaghan (keyboards).

From 1991–2000 he spent some years away from the music industry and in 2002 made his way back into music via the Logic Pro now Logic Studio software, experimenting with loops and atmospheric sounds and website building using the SBI platform developed by Ken Evoy.

2003–2005 Taught Bass, Guitar and Drums. Remixed prerecorded CD's for Wakakirri performers, Glenhaven Public School Divisional, State and Australian Winners 2002–2004.

Rejoined The Reels in 2008 who were invited by Sydney Festival in 2010 to perform as part of circa 1979. [9]

2014–Present Currently working as a cinematographer and bassist for The Willing Ponies.

Its 1981 song "Quasimodo's Dream" was voted one of the top 10 Australian songs of all time by a 100-member panel from Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) in 2001. The Reels had top 10 Australian singles chart successes with covers of Herb Alpert's "This Guy's in Love with You" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Rising". Rock music historian Ian McFarlane described the group as "one of the most original and invigorating pop bands to emerge from the Australian new wave movement of the late 1970s."

GANGgajang are an Australian pop rock band which formed in 1984.

Rockmelons, often referred to as the Rockies, were an Australian pop/dance/R&B group formed in 1983 in Sydney. Primary members are Bryon Jones, his brother Jonathon Jones and Raymond Medhurst. They had two Australian top five hit singles in the early 1990s with "Ain't No Sunshine" and "That Word (L.O.V.E.)", both sung by Deni Hines. The associated album, Form 1 Planet, peaked at number 3 on the ARIA albums chart in 1992, and was certified platinum in Australia.

Here's Looking Up Your Address is the debut studio album by Australian rock band Absent Friends. It was released in April 1990 and peaked at number 7 on the ARIA Charts and was certified gold.

The Stetsons was an Australian country and western band formed by members of GANGgajang, Mental As Anything and Flying Emus. They released a self-titled album in 1987 and played a few live shows, including at the Tamworth music Festival for the next two years. In 1997 the bands producer, Graham "Buzz" Bidstrup and his friend Andrew Richardson, made a record with former ABC JJJ sound engineer Keith Walker in Jimmy Barnes old studio. The album was called Their Most Successful Album...Ever. The band released three singles with videos and the debut single "There's A Train In My Head" was used in Crocodile Dundee II. Their music was also heard in the film Tenderhooks.

The Aliens were an Australian new wave band which formed in April 1978. They were one of the first local bands of the late 1970s to adopt a "uniform" of "black clothes and skinny, white ties". Two of their singles, "Confrontation" and "Follow that Girl", appeared on the Kent Music Report Singles Chart top 50. Australian musicologist, Ian McFarlane, noted their "sound embraced guitar-oriented pop rock with the emphasis on 1960s melodies".

Christopher Mark Bailey was an Australian bass guitarist and vocalist. He was a member of various rock groups including Headband (1971–1974), The Angels, Gang Gajang (1984–2013), and The Stetsons. Bailey died of throat cancer, aged 62.

Andrew Peter Duffield is an Australian musician, producer and teacher. He has been a member, on keyboards, synthesisers or electronics, for various groups, including Whirlywirld, Models and Absent Friends. Duffield has also been a backing musician for other artists both on tours and for studio sessions.
