Wildwater canoeing is a competitive discipline of canoeing in which kayaks or canoes are used to negotiate a stretch of river speedily. It is also called "Whitewater racing" or "Downriver racing" to distinguish it from whitewater slalom racing and whitewater rodeo or Freestyle competition.
The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the umbrella organization of all national canoe organizations worldwide. It is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, and administers all aspects of canoe sport worldwide. 157 countries are affiliated with the ICF after seven national federations were added at the 2008 ICF Congress in Rome.

Competing together with his twin brother Peter Hochschorner, they are the most successful C2 paddlers in the history of canoe slalom. They retired from canoe slalom in 2018 after the C2 event was discontinued and subsequently switched to wildwater canoeing. They retired from wildwater canoeing after the 2021 World Championships in their hometown Bratislava.

Fabien Lefèvre is a French slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 1998]. As a permanent resident of the United States, he has competed for his country of residence since 2013. He represented France until 2011. He won two medals at the Summer Olympics in the K1 event with a silver in 2008 and a bronze in 2004. He has a son called Noe Lefèvre.
Jiřina Valenta is a retired Czechoslovak-American wildwater and slalom canoeist who competed from the early 1960s to the early 1970s with then-husband Josef Šedivec under the last name Šedivcová. She won two silver medals at the 1965 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal, earning them in the C2 Mixed and C2 Mixed Team events. She also won a silver medal in the individual C2 Mixed Whitewater Downriver event and a gold medal in the C2 Mixed Team Whitewater Downriver event at the 1965 ICF Wildwater Canoeing World Championships, likewise held in Spittal.
Josef Šedivec is a retired Czechoslovak-American wildwater and slalom canoeist who competed from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. He two silver medals at the 1965 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Spittal, earning them in the mixed C-2 event and the mixed C-2 team event. She also won a silver medal in the individual C-2 Downriver event and a gold medal in the C-2 team mixed Downriver event at the 1965 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships also in Spittal.
Ladislav Škantár is a retired Slovak slalom canoeist who competed at the international level from 1998 to 2018, along with his cousin Peter Škantár in the C2 class. They retired from canoe slalom in 2018 after the C2 event was discontinued and subsequently switched to wildwater canoeing. They announced retirement from wildwater canoeing during the 2021 World Championships in their hometown Bratislava where they didn't start due to Ladislav's injury.

Clark is the daughter of Louise Clark, owner of the Lafayette hillside memorial. She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1979 with a degree in business administration. She is now married to Ronald J. Kauffman.
The 2017 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships was the 38th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 22 September to 1 October 2017 in Pau, France under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF) at the Pau-Pyrénées Whitewater Stadium. Pau was also hosting the Wildwater Canoeing World Championships as part of the same event.
Rosalyn "Ros" Lawrence is an Australian slalom canoeist who has competed at the international level since 2006. She also competes in wildwater and creeking events.
Jaroslav Slúčik is a former Czechoslovak-Slovak slalom canoeist and wildwater canoeist who competed in canoe slalom in the 1980s and in wildwater canoeing until 2013. He won a bronze medal in the C1 team event at the 1987 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Bourg St.-Maurice. He is also a multiple world champion in wildwater canoeing in C2 together with his partner Vladimír Vala.
Heide Schröter is a former West German slalom canoeist who competed in the late 1960s. She won a bronze medal in the K-1 team event at the 1967 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships in Lipno.
The 2019 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships were the 40th edition of the ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships. The event took place from 24 to 29 September 2019 in La Seu d'Urgell, Spain under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). The events took place at the Segre Olympic Park which also hosted the canoe slalom events at the 1992 Summer Olympics. La Seu d'Urgell hosted the championships for the third time after previously hosting the event in 1999 and 2009

The Wildwater Canoeing World Championships are an international event in canoeing organized by the International Canoe Federation. The World Championships have taken place every two year from 1959 to 1995 and than from 1996 to 2001, from 2011 the event is annual.
Lachlan Bassett is an Australian male canoeist who was a finalist at the senior level at the 2018 and 2019 Wildwater Canoeing World Championships.
The 2021 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships took place from 22 to 26 September 2021 in Bratislava, Slovakia under the auspices of International Canoe Federation (ICF). It was the 41st edition. The events took place at the Čunovo Water Sports Centre which was reconstructed before the championships. Bratislava hosted the championships for the second time after previously hosting in 2011.
