Paul 'The Axeman' Martin is a New Zealand radio DJ and musician, and former DJ for The Rock. [1] It began in Hamilton and later moved to Auckland. Over the years the station has been networked around New Zealand. The station broadcasts rock music from "the '80s, '90s and now".
Martin was one of The Rock's longest serving jocks, presenting, programming and producing his weekly metal show The Axe Attack on the Rock since 1992.
He has interviewed Slayer, Metallica, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Megadeth, Anthrax, Suicidal Tendencies, Lita Ford, Deftones, Rob Halford, Steve Vai and Max Cavalera.
He writes for New Zealand music Rip It Up magazine as well as Australia's Tattoos DownUnder. Martin started his own record label "HELLMAN RECORDS" to promote New Zealand music. His first CD release The Axe Attack New Zealand Metal Vol.1 boasts 16 New Zealand metal acts.
Until early 2006 he was a DJ at Hamilton metal bar, 6 Feet Under.
Martin is still based in Hamilton in the Waikato and used to commute to Auckland on Sundays to do the Axe Attack live.
Martin is a member of NZ's Heavily Tattooed Club.
Martin has released albums with Knightshade and Blackjack and currently plays in a new agro metal band World War Four and Martin-skin. World War Four has supported notable acts such as Black Label Society, Down, Heaven and Hell, and Motorhead, and opened New Zealand's 1st International Guitar Festival 2008 alongside Uli Jon Roth (Scorpions), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Joe Satriani, Gilbey Clarke, Vernon Reid.
He also performs in The Fabulous Farrelli Bros with the rest of the Rock jocks and often pops up with cover band Head First.
In 2010, Martin joined New Zealand alternative metal band Devilskin as the band's bass player. [2]

Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York. Formed in 1980, the group is known for lyrics based on fantasy and mythology, as well as numerous songs celebrating the genre and its core audience. The band is also known for a loud and emphatic sound. Blindspott is an alternative metal band from West Auckland, New Zealand. After performing under the name Blacklistt for several years, the original line-up got back together in 2018. The band was formed in 1997 with members Damian Alexander (vocals), Marcus Powell, Shelton Woolright (drums), Gareth Fleming (bass) and Karl Vilisini, also known as DJ Dlay.

Kick Axe is a Canadian heavy metal band from Regina, Saskatchewan. Influenced by rambunctious arena rock from the 1970s and early 1980s, the group is perhaps best known for their 1984 album Vices, praised by publications such as AllMusic for its "down-and-dirty guitar riffs" and managing to crack the American market. The band achieved moderate commercial success in the mid-1980s on the strength of the singles "Heavy Metal Shuffle", "On the Road to Rock", "With a Little Help from My Friends" and "Rock the World". Following the release of their 1986 album Rock the World, Kick Axe disbanded and remained on hiatus for many years. In 2004, they re-emerged with the album Kick Axe IV.

Titanium was a New Zealand pop boy band formed in Auckland in 2012 from the winners of The Edge radio station's competition to create New Zealand's first authentic boy band. The Edge radio station hosted auditions across New Zealand and eventually six young men were selected for the group consisting of members, Zac Taylor, Andrew Papas, Jordi Webber, Shaquille Paranihi-Ngauma, Haydn Linsley and T.K Paradza. They released their debut single, "Come On Home". The single debuted at number one on the official New Zealand Singles Chart on 17 September 2012. Titanium released their debut studio album, All For You in December 2012. They became the first New Zealand band to have three songs in the Top 40 Singles Chart at one time.
Devilskin is a four-piece alternative metal band from Hamilton, New Zealand, formed in June 2010. The band consists of lead vocalist Jennie Skulander, guitarist Tony "Nail" Vincent, bassist Paul Martin and drummer Nic Martin.
Alien Weaponry is a New Zealand metal band from Waipu, formed in Auckland in 2010. The band consists of drummer Henry de Jong, guitarist Lewis de Jong, and since August 2020, bass player Tūranga Morgan-Edmonds. All three members have Māori ancestry and a number of their songs are written and performed in the Māori language.
