Paul Pickering (born 14 September 1968) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from England. [1] [2] [3]

Career

Pickering started racing in the British leagues during the 1992 British League Division Two season, when riding for the Middlesbrough Bears. He improved his average the following season to 6.46 (an improvement of nearly 4 points). [4] [1]

In 1993, he had also started to make appearances in the top division for Bradford Dukes and in 1994 joined them permanently. During the 1995 Premier League speedway season, he was instrumental in helping the team win the Knockout Cup. [1]

He won more honours in 1997 as part of the Reading Racers league winning team, before joining Stoke Potters in 1998, where he was the team's leading scorer with an average of 9.00. He enjoyed some of his best years at Stoke, consistently averaging around the 8 to 9 point mark. [1] He was voted the team's rider of the decade. [5]

The National League speedway 2019 now known as the National Development League for the 2019 season was the third tier/division of British speedway. There were several team changes for the 2019 league season with reigning league champions and KO cup winners Eastbourne Eagles, along with the Birmingham Brummies, moving into the SGB Championship. Coventry Bees, who rode their home meetings at Leicester the previous season, did not enter the league, but Leicester Lions entered a team. Cradley Heathens fully entered the league after the previous season National Trophy only commitment, while the Buxton Hitmen decided not compete and only run open meetings (friendlies). It was announced on Tuesday 10 September before the end of the 2019 National Development League season that Stoke Potters' home venue at Loomer Road Stadium had been sold and that the team would not be operating in 2020.
