Politics of Slovakia takes place in a framework of a parliamentary representative democratic republic, with a multi-party system. Legislative power is vested in the parliament and it can be exercised in some cases also by the government or directly by citizens.
The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party was a liberal-conservative, Christian-democratic political party in Slovakia. The SDKÚ-DS was a member of the Centrist Democrat International and was a member of the European People's Party until 2018, when it was expelled.
Direction – Slovak Social Democracy, formerly and legally called Direction – Social Democracy, is a national-populist political party in Slovakia led by the former prime minister Robert Fico. The party claims to be social-democratic with Slovak national specifics. Political scientists observe an extremist and anti-establishment rhetoric.
Monika Beňová is a Slovak politician who has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004. She is a member of the centre-left Direction-Social Democracy party SMER-SD. SMER-SD is a member of the Party of European Socialists. She presently serves on the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. At the same time she serves as a Quaestor of the European Parliament and therefore she is a member of the European Parliament's Bureau. In present she has opposite views as her mother party - Smer, for example on European Union, NATO, LGBTQ rights in Slovakia, conflict in Ukraine and so on.
The Bratislava Region is one of the administrative regions of Slovakia. Its capital is Bratislava. The region was first established in 1923 and its present borders exist from 1996. It is the smallest of the eight regions of Slovakia as well as the most urbanized, most developed and most productive by GDP per capita.
Robert Fico is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2006 to 2010 and from 2012 to 2018. He has been the first leader of the Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD) party since 1999. First elected to Parliament in 1992, he was later appointed to the Council of Europe. Following his party's victory in the 2006 parliamentary election, he formed the first Fico Cabinet.
Pavol Paška was a Slovak politician who served as Speaker of the National Council of the Slovak Republic from 2006 to 2010 and again from 2012 to 2014. He was a member of the Direction - Social Democracy (Smer-SD) party.
Luboš Blaha is a Slovak Marxist political scientist, philosopher and politician. He is a member of the National Council, the Slovak parliament, affiliated with the left-wing SMER-SD party.

Peter Žiga ) is a Slovak politician and businessman, a member of the National Council for Voice - Social Democracy (Hlas-SD), and previously Direction – Social Democracy (SMER-SD). He was formerly Minister of the Environment (2012-2016) and Minister of the Economy (2016-2020) of Slovakia.
Peter Kažimír ) is a Slovak central banker and former politician, currently serving as the Governor of the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS). He previously served as the country's Finance Minister under prime ministers Robert Fico and Peter Pellegrini. He was a senior member of the social-democratic SMER-SD party, but left the party after assuming the governorship of NBS.
Richard Raši is a Slovak physician and politician who served as Slovakia's Deputy Prime Minister for Investments and Information. A member of the Voice – Social Democracy political party, Raši previously served as Mayor of the city of Košice. He also served from 3 June 2008 until 8 June 2010 as Minister of Health in the First cabinet of Robert Fico.

Peter Pellegrini is a Slovak politician who served as the prime minister of Slovakia from 2018 to 2020 and Minister of Health from December 2019 to March 2020. He previously served as deputy prime minister (2016–2018) and minister for Education and Science (2014), as well as spending two years as speaker of the National Council (2014–2016). Pellegrini was a member of Direction – Social Democracy until he left the party and founded Voice – Social Democracy in late June 2020.
Parliamentary elections were held in Slovakia on 5 March 2016 to elect the 150 members of the National Council. The ruling left-wing populist Direction – Social Democracy (SMER–SD) party remained the strongest party, but lost its majority. The Slovak Democratic and Christian Union – Democratic Party (SDKÚ-DS), which led the government between 2000–06 and 2010–12, was defeated heavily, failing to cross the electoral threshold and losing its representation in the National Council. The centre-right Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) also failed to cross the threshold for the first time since 1990, whilst the far-right nationalist Kotleba – People's Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) entered parliament for the first time.

Voice – Social Democracy is a social-democratic political party in Slovakia. Founded on 29 June 2020 and officially registered by the Ministry of Interior on 11 September 2020, it has a populist outlook, coupled with a catch-all party nature.
The 2018 Slovak local elections were held on Saturday, 10 November 2018, to elect deputies to municipality councils, city councils and mayors, including mayors of boroughs and members of their councils in Bratislava and Košice.
The Christian Union is a Slovak right-wing conservative political party based on the values of the Judeo-Christian tradition. The chairwoman of the party since 2019 is Anna Záborská. At present, he has five deputies of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, elected on the candidate of the party OĽANO-NOVA-KÚ-ZZ.
Ladislav Kamenický is an MP of the National Council of Slovakia for Direction – Slovak Social Democracy (Smer-SD). He served as the Minister of Finance for little over a year between 2019 and 2020.
