Pathanamthitta District is a district in the southern part of Kerala, India. The district headquarters is in the town of Pathanamthitta. There are four municipalities in Pathanamthitta: Tiruvalla, Adoor, Pathanamthitta and Pandalam.

Adoor is a Municipality in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala State, India. It is the headquarters of Adoor Taluk and Adoor Revenue Division.
Ranni is a town in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, in India. The taluk headquarters is a township on both sides of the Pamba River. Ranni is also one of the largest taluks in Kerala. The renowned Hindu temple of Sabarimala is in this taluk, situated approximately 66 km from the main town, Ittiyappara. Chittar is a village in Pathanamthitta district, located in Kerala state, India. It is a Panchayat and is situated in the Ranni Taluk and in Konni constituency in Pathanamthitta District. It is located 29km away from Pathanamthitta town at its east. Nearby Panchayats are Seethathodu, Perunad, Vadaserikkara and Thannithodu. Chittar was formerly represented in the Ranni legislative assembly, but now in Konni assembly. Its previous parliament constituency was Idukki. Chittar was given the Nirmal Gram award from former president Pratibha Patil.

He is a member of the Indian National Congress and on 16 May 2009, in the first election held in this newly apportioned district, he was elected as a United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate by 408,232 votes over K. Ananthagopan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) with 297,026; B. Radhakrishna Menon of the Bharatiya Janata Party with 56,294 and three other candidates. In 2014 general elections, he was re-elected from the same constituency with a margin of 58,836 against LDF supported opponent independent candidate Mr. Peelipose Thomas, who was an ex DCC president.
Sacred Heart Malankara Syrian Catholic Church or referred as S H Church is located in the village of Mylapra, near Pathanamthitta on the road side of the Main Eastern Highway in the Indian state of Kerala. It is home to one of the oldest Malankara Syrian Catholic group. This is the biggest and oldest established church in the Eparchy of Pathanamthitta. This church is the patron for the Educational Institutions namely, Mount Bethany EHSS and S H Higher Secondary School.

The Eparchy of Pathanamthitta constitutes the Malankara Syrian Catholic community in the Vicinity of Pathanamthitta in the Indian State of Kerala. The diocese came into existence with the consent of Pope Benedict XVI, on 25 January 2010. Yoohanon Mar Chrysostom became the first bishop of this eparchy.
