Pehrspace was an Indie music venue and art gallery situated in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. It was founded in 2006 by Adam Hervey and Darren King, and currently owned and operated by Pauline Lay. Pehrspace is an all-ages, not-for-profit art space, run by volunteers, inspired and influenced by venues Jabberjaw and Timbrespace. Pehrspace is run under Pehr Arts Ltd. a 501(c)3 organization. History

Founded in 2006 by Adam Hervey and Darren King, and currently owned and operated by Pauline Lay, Pehrspace is an all-ages, not-for-profit art space. Pehrspace is run by volunteers, inspired and influenced by venues Jabberjaw and Timbrespace. Pehrspace is run under Pehr Arts Ltd. a 501(c)3 organization. [5]

Pehrspace has had experimental cinema nights, free clothes swaps, craft fairs, and exhibits. The building itself performs multiple functions, acting as a rehearsal space and recording studio during the weekday and a venue at night. A variety of professionals from masseuses to voice teachers rent out the adjoining office spaces and often contribute to Pehrspace during their occupancy. [6] [3]

Bands like HEALTH and No Age performed here. [7] From 2007-2014, Sean Carnage promoted his Monday-night shows at Pehrspace. Sean Carnage Monday Nights became a Los Angeles staple, showing and promoting new bands every week. [8] [9]

Pehrspace was recognized as “Best Small Venue in L.A. 2014” by L.A. Weekly. [7] In 2020, a documentary movie about Pehrspace called “Sean Carnage Parking Lot” was released starring Val Kilmer, Dan Deacon, Future Islands, Lucky Dragons, Juiceboxxx, Vice Cooler and more. The movie was recorded on September 5, 2011, at Pehrspace in Echo Park, Los Angeles. [10]

Closure and relocation

On June 6, 2016, the all-ages space posted a photo to Facebook of a 60-day tenancy termination notice left on its door. [11] The venue posted in an update to their Facebook page, which has been inundated with messages of support and dismay from its fans. [3] Following lease termination, Pehrspace began crowdfunding to relocate. [12] [13]

KXLU Radio station at Loyola Marymount University

KXLU is an FM radio station broadcasting out of Loyola Marymount University in southwest Los Angeles, California. It was first on the air in 1957, and in 2007, celebrated its 50th anniversary. It is a non-commercial college radio station that plays many styles of music broadly classified under rock, specialty, fine arts, alternative music and Latin jazz. KXLU has a small, cult following among music fans in the general Los Ángeles metropolitan area. The station's rock programming runs between 2am and 6pm on weekdays and the hosts during this time are predominantly college students. Sean Carnage

Sean Carnage, born Sean Carney, is a director and producer living in Los Angeles. He is also a concert promoter, hosting "Sean Carnage Monday Nights" at Pehrspace in Echo Park, Carnage has also hosted his "Monday nights" in the past at Los Angeles venues The Smell and the il Corral.

The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) is a non profit organization that serves to promote the creation, presentation, and recognition of experimental art and sound events in the greater Los Angeles area. SASSAS members are interested in how experimental art, architecture and music interact.

Il Corral was a venue located in Los Angeles, California. that provided performance space for underground artists. It was founded by Bob Bellerue and Stane Hubert in January 2005. Bellerue ceased involvement in September 2006; Hubert and Christie Scott continued the venture until December 2007.

Nova Express Café

The Nova Express Café was a science-fiction-themed cafe and restaurant in Los Angeles, named as an homage to the William S. Burroughs satirical sci-fi novel, Nova Express. It was located across the street from Canter's Deli, and adjacent to the original location of Largo. The business was in operation for 15 years, from June 1993 until March 2008.

Banc of California Stadium is a soccer-specific stadium in the Exposition Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The Inglewood Basketball and Entertainment Center (IBEC) is a proposed 18,000-seat arena to be located in Inglewood, California for the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association. The arena would be located just south of SoFi Stadium, the home of the NFL's Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, and the Hollywood Park development.
