The People's Progressive Alliance (PPA) was a political party in Montserrat led by John Osborne.

Montserrat British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean

Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory (BOT) in the Caribbean. The island is in the Leeward Islands, which is part of the chain known as the Lesser Antilles, in the West Indies. Montserrat measures approximately 16 km (10 mi) in length and 11 km (7 mi) in width, with approximately 40 km (25 mi) of coastline. Montserrat is nicknamed "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants.

John Alfred Osborne was a chief minister of Montserrat.

History

The PPA was created in 1996 as a successor to the People's Liberation Movement, which had been formed by Osborne in 1973. [1] Although it received the most votes in the November 1996 elections, it won only two of the seven seats in the Legislative Council, and a coalition government was formed by the Movement for National Reconstruction (MNR) and the National Progressive Party.

In 2001 the party merged with the MNR to create the New People's Liberation Movement prior to the elections that year. [2]

General elections were held in Montserrat on 11 November 1996. The result was a hung parliament, with no party holding more than two seats. Although the People's Progressive Alliance received the largest number of votes, Bertrand Osborne of the Movement for National Reconstruction became Chief Minister after forming a coalition government with the National Progressive Party and an independent MP.

1993 Bolivian general election

General elections were held in Bolivia on 6 June 1993. As no candidate for the presidency received over 50% of the vote, the National Congress was required to elect a President on 4 August. Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada of the Revolutionary Nationalist Movement–Revolutionary Liberation Movement Tupaq Katari alliance was subsequently elected unopposed.
