Pepperdine University is a private Christian research university affiliated with the Churches of Christ with its main campus in Los Angeles County, California, United States. Pepperdine's main campus consists of 830 acres overlooking the Pacific Ocean and the Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu, California. Founded by entrepreneur George Pepperdine in South Los Angeles in 1937, the school expanded to Malibu in 1972. Courses are now taught at a main Malibu campus and graduate campuses in the USA, Latin America, and Europe.

Steven James Rodríguez is an American baseball coach and former second baseman/shortstop. He played college baseball for the Pepperdine Waves from 1991 to 1992. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) during the 1995 season. He served as the head coach of the Pepperdine Waves (2004–2015) and the Baylor Bears (2016–2022).
The Pepperdine Waves are the athletics teams of Pepperdine University, located outside the city of Malibu, California. They compete at the Division I level of the NCAA. The school is a member of the West Coast Conference for the majority of its programs. Pepperdine University was recently ranked by the Sears Cup as having the most successful athletic program for non-football Division I schools. The Pepperdine Waves men's basketball team is an American college basketball team that represents Pepperdine University in NCAA Division I, the highest level of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The Waves compete in the West Coast Conference and are coached by Ed Schilling. The Waves have competed in the NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament 13 times and are 3rd all-time in WCC Tournament wins and championships. The Waves most recently appeared in the NCAA tournament in 2002. Thirty-eight former Waves have been drafted or played in the NBA including Doug Christie and Dennis Johnson, an inductee of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The most recent Waves drafted into the NBA are Kessler Edwards (2021) and Maxwell Lewis (2023).
Marvin Alex Dunphy is an American former volleyball player and head coach. He is most known for his time at Pepperdine University. During his tenure, Pepperdine won four NCAA Division I Championships. His career record is 612–277 (.688). He also led the United States men's national volleyball team to the gold medal in the 1988 Summer Olympics. He retired from coaching in 2017.

The 1947 Pepperdine Waves football team represented George Pepperdine College as an independent during the 1947 college football season. The Waves played home games at Sentinel Field on the campus of Inglewood High School in Inglewood, California. Pepperdine finished the season with an undefeated record of 9–0, dominating their opponents by scoring 349 points and allowing only 26 over the season. They had five consecutive shutouts to finish the season, with no opponent scoring more than seven points all year.
