History

Persil made its BBC Radio 1 debut in 1998, when John Peel played a track from the band's first demo in his show. Over the years John Peel played dozens of Persil tracks in his BBC shows, including eight tracks from Persil's first album Duotone. Persil recorded three Peel sessions.

Persil's debut album Duotone was released on Transformed Dreams in 2004. Since the album release Persil has played numerous gigs in the UK, Netherlands and USA, including showcases at the SXSW Festival in Texas, USA (2004), at the In The City Festival in Manchester, UK (2004), at the Eurosonic Festival in Groningen, the Netherlands (2006) and at the Go North Festival in Aberdeen, UK (2006).

After meeting Debbie Harry in New York, Persil were invited to support Blondie on their only Dutch show in June 2004.

In 2005 Persil supported The Wedding Present on nine sold out UK dates. They also released Tune-up, a new EP. Tracks from the Tune-up EP have been played by BBC DJ's Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens and Rob Da Bank.

Their second full-length album Comfort Noise was released in 2006.

Art of Noise were an English avant-garde synth-pop group formed in early 1983 by engineer/producer Gary Langan and programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with keyboardist/arranger Anne Dudley, producer Trevor Horn, and music journalist Paul Morley. Keane are an English alternative rock band from Battle, East Sussex, formed in 1995. They met whilst at Tonbridge School together. The band currently comprises Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley, Richard Hughes, and Jesse Quin. Their original line-up included founder and guitarist Dominic Scott, who left in 2001.

Extreme Noise Terror are a British extreme metal band formed in Ipswich in 1985 and one of the earliest and most influential crust bands. Noted for one of the earliest uses of dual vocalists in hardcore, and for recording a number of sessions for BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, the band started as crust punks and helped characterise the early, archetypal grindcore sound with highly political lyrics, fast guitars and tempos, and often very short songs.

Even As We Speak is an indie band from Sydney, Australia. Formed in the mid-1980s, founding members Matthew Love and Mary Wyer were later joined by Rob Irwin (bass) Anita Rayner, Paul Clarke and Julian Knowles.

Kenickie were an English four-piece pop punk band from Sunderland. The band was formed in 1994 and consisted of lead vocalist, guitarist and lyricist Lauren Laverne, drummer Johnny X, lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist Marie du Santiago and bass guitarist Emmy-Kate Montrose. The band's name comes from their favourite character in the film Grease.

The Nightingales British band

Nightingales are a British post-punk/alternative rock band, formed in 1979 in Birmingham, England, by four members of Birmingham's punk group The Prefects. They had been part of The Clash's 'White Riot Tour', recorded a couple of Peel Sessions, released a 45 on Rough Trade and, years after splitting up, had a retrospective CD released by US indie label Acute Records.

Vice Squad

Vice Squad are an English punk rock band formed in 1979 in Bristol. The band was formed from two other local punk bands, The Contingent and TV Brakes. The songwriter and vocalist Beki Bondage was a founding member of the band. Although there was a period of time when the band had a different vocalist she reformed the band in 1997. Since 2008, the band have been releasing records on their own label Last Rockers.

Blue Orchids are an English post-punk band formed in Manchester in 1979, when Martin Bramah decided to quit The Fall after playing on the band's debut album Live at the Witch Trials. Christened by Salford-based punk poet John Cooper Clarke the band recorded for Rough Trade and acted as backing band for the Velvet Underground's Nico before a 25-year period of intermittent activity and alternative identities.

Gossip (band) American indie rock band

Gossip is an American indie rock band that was originally active from 1999 until 2016, formed in Searcy, Arkansas. For most of their career, the band consisted of singer Beth Ditto, multi-instrumentalist Brace Paine, and drummer Hannah Blilie. After releasing several recordings, the band broke through with their 2006 studio album, Standing in the Way of Control. A follow-up, Music for Men, was released in 2009. The band plays a mix of post-punk revival, indie rock, and dance-rock. Their last album, A Joyful Noise, was released in May 2012.

Cable (British band) Indie rock band

Cable were an English indie rock band originally from Derby, who released three studio albums: Down-Lift the Up-Trodden (1996), When Animals Attack (1997) and Sub-Lingual (1999) on Infectious Records. The band split up in 1999, before briefly reforming in 2012.

Hadouken! (band)

Hadouken! are a British band formed in London in 2006 by singer, writer and producer James Smith and synth player Alice Spooner along with guitarist Daniel "Pilau" Rice, bassist Christopher Purcell and drummer Nick Rice. The band name is taken from the special attack of the same name from the Street Fighter video game series. It was in Leeds that Hadouken! began their own record label, Surface Noise Records.

Chloe Alper Musical artist

Chloë Alper is a British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She began her music career in 1996 with Riot grrrl punk band Period Pains and is now a member of the English rock band James (band) and a founding member of the British new prog rock group Pure Reason Revolution. Her solo release, "Juno", featured on the original motion picture soundtrack to Maniac. Another solo release, "True Love", is the title track to the American supernatural horror film Amityville: The Awakening.

Inca Babies

Inca Babies are an English post-punk rock and roll band from Manchester, England, initially active between 1982 and 1988, reforming in 2007 featuring founder member and original songwriter Harry Stafford. With a new line-up of Rob Haynes (drums) and Vince Hunt (bass) the Inca Babies have released four new albums and continue to tour extensively in the UK and Europe.

Beatnik Filmstars were a British Lo-fi pop group formed in Bristol in 1990. After splitting up in 1998, going on to side projects Kyoko and Bluebear, they re-formed in 2004, releasing several more albums before splitting again in 2008.
