The Perth Road drill hall is a former military installation on Perth Road in Birnam, Perth and Kinross, Scotland.
The building was designed by Andrew Granger Heiton as the headquarters of the 5th (Perthshire Highland) Volunteer Battalion, The Black Watch and was completed in October 1894. [1] [2] This unit evolved to become the 8th (Cyclist) Battalion, The Black Watch in 1908 and the Highland Cyclist Battalion in 1909. [3] The regimental headquarters moved to the Hunter Street drill hall in Kirkcaldy shortly before the First World War. [3] The regiment was disbanded in 1919 and the building was subsequently converted for residential use. [1]
The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. The regiment was created as part of the Childers Reforms in 1881, when the 42nd Regiment of Foot was amalgamated with the 73rd (Perthshire) Regiment of Foot. It was known as The Black Watch from 1881 to 1931 and The Black Watch from 1931 to 2006. Part of the Scottish Division for administrative purposes from 1967, it was the senior Highland regiment. It has been part of the Scottish, Welsh and Irish Division for administrative purposes from 2017.
The 51st Highland Volunteers is a battalion in the British Army's Army Reserve or reserve force in the Scottish Highlands, forming the 7th Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, also known as 7 SCOTS. It is one of two Reserve battalions in the Royal Regiment of Scotland, along with 52nd Lowland, a similar unit located in the Scottish Lowlands.
The Black Watch of Canada is a reserve infantry regiment in 34 Canadian Brigade Group, 2nd Canadian Division, of the Canadian Army. The regiment is located on Bleury Street in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and is currently commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel J.B.F Roy, CD. The regiment's armoury was designated a National Historic Site of Canada in 2008. They are the senior Canadian-Scottish Regiment.
