Peter Beaumont CBE KC (born 10 January 1944) is a British barrister and retired judge. [1]
Beaumont was called to the Bar at Lincoln's Inn in 1967 where he later became a Bencher in 2001. He took silk in 1986,and served as a Crown Court Recorder from 1986 to 1989,before becoming a circuit judge. Beaumont had previously sat at the Central Criminal Court (better known as the Old Bailey) since 1995,and was Common Serjeant of London from 2001 to 2004,being appointed Recorder of London in December 2004,following the sudden death of the previous Recorder,Judge Michael Hyam QC. During his time as a senior Judge at the Central Criminal Court Beaumont made some controversial rulings.
Beaumont retired from the judiciary in February 2013 and was succeeded as Recorder of London by Brian Barker;he was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2013 New Years Honours.
The Central Criminal Court of England and Wales,commonly referred to as the Old Bailey after the street on which it stands,is a criminal court building in central London,one of several that house the Crown Court of England and Wales. The street outside follows the route of the ancient wall around the City of London,which was part of the fortification's bailey,hence the metonymic name.

Jeffrey Blackett is a British former judge and Royal Navy officer with the rank of Commodore. He was Judge Advocate General of the Armed Forces from 2004 to 2020 and among the cases over which he presided was that of "Marine A". Blackett was criticised by the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC) for sentencing Sgt Alexander Blackman RM to a life sentence for murder,as he failed to give the board the option to pass a lesser sentence of manslaughter. According to the report,the CCRC,which investigates miscarriages of justice,said Judge Blackett was guilty of a "material irregularity" in the original trial,due to an "apparent failure to recognise the position regarding manslaughter during the trial and to direct the board appropriately". Subsequently the Court Martial Appeal Court rejected any criticism of Blackett. They said:"We could see no basis for any criticism of the conduct of the Court Martial by the Judge Advocate General. He left the issues which had been raised by the prosecution and the defence during the hearing of the Court Martial to the Board in an entirely fair and proper manner." Alexander Blackman's murder conviction was eventually quashed in 2017 after a successful appeal.

Sir Nicholas Richard Maybury Hilliard is a British judge who was the Recorder of London,an ancient and senior legal post at the Old Bailey,and before that Common Serjeant of London,the Recorder's second. He was appointed to that office in May 2013. From 6 January 2015 he was Recorder of London,the senior judge at the Old Bailey. In October 2019 it was announced that was to be appointed as a judge of the High Court of Justice. He took up that appointment on 19 November 2019 ceasing to be Recorder of London.
