Peter Entell is an American-born documentary filmmaker, living in Switzerland. He has both American and Swiss nationality. He has filmed in Europe, Africa, and Asia on film projects with social, political, and environmental subjects. [1] [2] [3]

Biography

Entell was born in New York in 1952 and moved to Switzerland in 1975, where he began to work for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) as a sound recordist. [1] [2] [3]

The first film he directed was Moving On: The Hunger for Land in Zimbabwe, at the behest of the Belgian-Zimbabwe Friendship Association. [1]

The Tube, an investigation led by a journalist who tries to discover the truth about how the television affects our brains. It first was released in 2001. He re-edited the film in 2009.

Josh’s Trees, the story of the filmmaker’s best friend who dies when his son is less than a year old. Years later the boy is just beginning to ask questions about his father. (2005)

Shake the Devil Off, a film musical about New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, emphasizing St. Augustine Church and its pastor Jerome LeDoux. (2007)

In 2012, Entell released A Home far Away, [4] about fellow Americans, Broadway, television and Hollywood actress Lois Snow and her husband Edgar Snow, author of the best-selling book Red Star Over China, first American correspondent to interview Mao Tse-tung, and first American to film Mao. [1]

Like Dew in the Sun explores why people can't live together in peace. After centuries of hatred, violence and massacres, Ukraine is at war once again. An opera about a filmmaker’s journey to the land of his ancestors. (2016)

Sisters A story of abandonment and discovery, of silence and of sharing, of how fate has shaped the lives of three women and of how their efforts have changed their lives.

Getting Old Stinks a filmmaker, his mother and father. The experience of aging – our own, that of our loved ones – and of death. A story shot over fifteen year period, told with humour despite its drama, an ode to life beyond the suffering.

Entell received a Guggenheim Foundation grant in 1988. Christian Frei Swiss filmmaker and film producer

Christian Frei is a Swiss filmmaker and film producer. He is mostly known for his films War Photographer (2001), The Giant Buddhas (2005) and Space Tourists (2009). Since 2006, Frei has been an associate lecturer on Reflection Competence at the renowned University of St. Gallen. From 2006 to 2009 he was president of the “Documentary Film Commission” for the film section of the Swiss Federal Office of Culture. Since August 2010 he is president of the Swiss Film Academy.

Léa Pool C.M. is a Swiss-Canadian filmmaker who taught film at the Université du Québec à Montréal. She has directed several documentaries and feature films, many of which have won significant awards including the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, and she was the first woman to win the prize for Best Film at the Quebec Cinema Awards. 1977 Cannes Film Festival

The 30th Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 27 May 1977. The Palme d'Or went to the Padre Padrone by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani. A new non-competitive section, "Le Passé composé", is held at this festival only and focuses on compilations. This section, along with sections "Les Yeux fertiles" and "L'Air du temps" of the previous two years, were integrated into Un Certain Regard in 1978.

Peter Raymont is a Canadian filmmaker and producer and the president of White Pine Pictures, an independent film, television and new media production company based in Toronto. Among his films are Shake Hands with the Devil: The Journey of Romeo Dallaire (2005), A Promise to the Dead: The Exile Journey of Ariel Dorfman (2007), The World Stopped Watching (2003) and The World Is Watching (1988). Moritz de Hadeln is a Swiss documentary film director and photographer, who became a Film Festival director. He was the founder of Swiss documentary film festival Visions du Réel. He also headed the Locarno International Film Festival from 1972 to 1977, the Berlin International Film Festival from 1980 to 2001 and the Venice International Film Festival in 2002 and 2003. All of his films have been released theatrically and Imbach has won numerous awards for his work, both in Switzerland and abroad. With Well Done (1994) and Ghetto (1997) Imbach established his trademark audio-visual style, which is based on a combination of cinema- verité camera-work and fast-paced editing. His fiction features Happiness is a Warm Gun, as well as Lenz (2006), I Was a Swiss Banker (2007) and the fictive autobiography Day is Done (2011) all premiered at the Berlinale. His latest feature film Mary Queen of Scots celebrated its premiere in Locarno and at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2013. His latest documentary Nemesis celebrated its international premiere at International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam 2020, where it received the Prize for Best Cinematography. Thomas Imbach is currently considered one of the most unconventional and consistent Swiss filmmakers.

The film was also shown at the "secret screenings" during Locarno Film Festival 2020, as well as 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
