Peter Humphreys is a Papua New Guinean politician. He was the Governor of West New Britain Province and the member for West New Britain Provincial in the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea from 2007 to 2012.

Papua New Guinea, officially the Independent State of Papua New Guinea is a country in Oceania that occupies the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and its offshore islands in Melanesia, a region of the southwestern Pacific Ocean north of Australia. The National Parliament of Papua New Guinea is the unicameral national legislature in Papua New Guinea. It was created in 1964 as the House of Assembly of Papua and New Guinea but gained its current name after the nation was granted independence in 1975.

Humphreys was raised in the Talasea area, the son of English-born plantation manager and former Talasea MP Harry Humphreys. He worked as a businessman before entering politics. [1] [2] He contested the 2007 general election for the governing National Alliance, and faced a difficult race against independent candidate and former Air Niugini chairman Sir Joe Tauvasa and incumbent Governor Clement Nakmai. He trailed Tauvasa on primary votes, but won the seat after the final distribution of preferences. [3] The result enraged some of Tauvasa's supporters, who responded with two days of rioting in the Hoskins area. [4] Humphreys has stated an intention to increase accountability and transparency in the provincial government and to improve basic services in previously neglected areas of the province. [5]

Talasea is a village on the Talasea Peninsula, West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

The National Alliance Party has operated as a political party in Papua New Guinea since 1995. The party had 15 members in the 111-seat National Parliament of Papua New Guinea as of August 2017, and was part of the Alliance Accord for Change as part of the Opposition to the O'Neill led government for Papua New Guinea's 10th Parliament.

In January 2012, he joined Don Polye's new Triumph Heritage Empowerment Rural Party. [6]

Don Pomb Polye(born 1 February 1967) was a senior Papua New Guinean politician from Enga Province. He has been a Cabinet Minister under two Prime Ministers, and was briefly Deputy Prime Minister from July to December 2010. Earlier, he has held Foreign Affairs, Immigration, Transport, Civil Aviation, Finance and Treasury portfolios.

He was defeated by Sasindran Muthuvel at the 2012 election. [7]

He was Governor of Madang Province from 2010 and Minister for Justice and Attorney-General from 2010 to 2011. Prior to entering politics, he was Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea.

David Arore is a Papua New Guinean politician. He was a member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea from 2007 until unseated by a court decision in 2015 and again from a 2015 by-election until 2017. He was Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology under Peter O'Neill from 2011 to 2014.

Lauta Atoi is a Papua New Guinean politician and rugby league player. He was a People's National Congress member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea from 2011 to 2017, representing the electorate of North Bougainville Open. His name is sometimes spelled as Louta Atoi.

Tony Aimo is a Papua New Guinean politician. He was a member of the National Parliament of Papua New Guinea from 2002 to 2012 and again from 2012 to 2013, representing the electorate of Ambunti-Drekikir Open.
