Embu is a town located approximately 125 kilometres (78 mi) northeast of Nairobi towards Mount Kenya. Embu served as the provincial capital of the former Eastern Province and currently serves as the headquarters of the Eastern Region in Kenya. It is also the county headquarters of Embu County. Located on the south-eastern foothills of Mount Kenya, the Municipality of Embu had a population of 204,979 in 2019 census. Embu is also the 8th Largest Municipality in Kenya. It is the commercial hub of the Central Eastern part of Kenya and provides an avenue for trade, tourism and highway transit between the national capital and the Northern Frontier.
Mûkûûrî is an administrative Location and township in Runyenjes Division, in Embu County, Kenya, with a population of about 25,000 people. It is named for a large, strong Sycamore Fig Tree that stood for over 100 years at the current site of the township. The Sycamore Fig tree symbolizes strength, rejuvenation and regeneration. Mûkûû-rî region lies on the green, rolling hills of the Mount Kenya slopes. The administrative region begins from the stone cliffs of Nthûngû waterfalls, all the way to Nthenge Njerû falls, through the famous Kirimiri Forest, stretching to the historic Gogo Salt lick, bordering Gitare. It is home to four public primary schools, including Kubu Kubu Memorial Boarding School and Muragari School, which is among the oldest schools in Embu and Kîrînyaga districts.
Kubu Kubu, born as Njagi wa Ikutha, was an Embu Mau Mau leader and general. His nom de guerre, Kubu Kubu, means "heavy thud" in Kîembu, referencing the thud his feet made due to his heavy build.

Cecily Mutitu Mbarire EGH A.K.A Karinda is the serving governor of Embu County having been sworn into office on August 25, 2022. She is the chairperson of Kenya`s ruling party, United Democratic Alliance, and the patron of The Kenya Scouts Association. She was educated at Muragari Primary School and Sacred Heart Kyeni Girls. She has had an extensive career in politics spanning over 20 years, she rose to the limelight having been nominated MP in the year 2002–2007. In her political career, she represented Runyenjes Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya from 2007 to 2013. Her advocacy for special interest groups culminated in her nomination to Parliament from 2017 to 2022. In the 11th Parliament, she served as vice chairperson in the Public Accounts Committee. She held membership positions in various Parliamentary committees, such as Committee on Energy, Communication and Information, Committee on Transport, and Public Works and Housing. In the 12th Parliament, she served in the Committee on Energy, Committee on Appointments and Committee on Procedure and House Rules. Cecily Mbarire also served as Chairperson of KEWOPA. In her push for equality and vouching for women to take up leadership positions, She advocates for women to pursue competitive elective seats with male politicians, and not to seek 'gender sympathy' in attaining Positions.
Mbeere South is an electoral constituency in Embu County, Kenya. It used to be known as Gachoka Constituency, one of two constituencies of the former Mbeere District. It has five wards; Mwea, Makima, Mbeti South, Mavuria and Kiambere Wards. The constituency was established for the 1988 elections.

Martin Nyaga Wambora is a Kenyan politician. He is the first governor of Embu County in Kenya after winning on a TNA ticket in the Embu gubernatorial elections which was conducted in March 2013. He would later become the first Governor in Kenya to be impeached, not once but twice but he successfully challenged the impeachment later and was overwhelmingly Re-elected in 2017 winning his 2nd term in office. He was a former member of parliament for Runyenjes Constituency from 2003 to 2007. Prior to becoming the governor of Embu County, he served as the chairman of the board of Kenya Airports Authority and led to its winning of the two most prestigious airport industry awards in 2011.
Muragari Primary School is the third-oldest school in Embu, Kenya. It was founded 1932 by the National Independent Church of Africa near the current Mukuuri Township, at the base of a large, ancient Mûkûû Tree, Runyenjes Sub County.
Stanley Nyagah (1936–2005), nicknamed Kĩthũng'a, was a Kenyan educationist, civil servant, technocrat and, entrepreneur who, between 1983 -1988, served as Member of Parliament for Embu North constituency, now split into Runyenjes constituency and Manyatta constituency. His campaign symbol was a key (rũvungoro). The key symbolized the opening up of hitherto inaccessible public resources to the masses. While in parliament, he served on the public investments committee.
Eric Muchangi Njiru Karemba is a Kenyan politician and a businessman, and currently the Member of Parliament (MNA) for Runyenjes Constituency, serving a second term and also the Chairman of the Labour and Social Affairs committee. Runyenjes is in Embu County in Eastern part of Kenya. Karemba belongs to the United Democratic Alliance party under the Kenya Kwanza alliance led by the current and the fifth president of Kenya Dr William Ruto. He is a graduate of Kenyatta university with a Bachelors of Education and was a student leader at the same university. Karemba made history by becoming the first Akorino MP in the history of Kenya. Karemba currently serves as the Chairman of the Labor and Social Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.
John Muchiri is a Kenyan politician and a member of the 11th parliament of Kenya for Manyatta Constituency, Embu County on the ticket of The National Alliance and with support of Jubilee Coalition. Elected in 2013, Muchiri served on the house committee on Public Investment and Departmental Committee on Health. According to Mzalendo Trust, Muchiri is one of the “lazy MPs” in the parliament haven spoken only nine times during his term in the lowerhouse.
