Peter Speight (born 26 December 1992) is a British freestyle skier. He competed in the 2018 Winter Olympics finishing 15th. [1] Speight made his World Cup halfpipe debut in 2013 and achieved his career best World Cup finish with a 4th place in China, December 2017. [1] He has won the British championships twice in 2016 and 2017.
Born in East London, Speight moved to Sheffield aged 10 where he first took up freestyle skiing when his father took him to try it out at the Sheffield Ski Village dry slope. Spending his teens competing and skiing around the UK dry slope scene, he progressed up to international level when he was 17, competing at the European Freeski Open in Laax, Switzerland. Speight continued with freestyle skiing into his 20s, heading abroad when he left school to ski and chase halfpipe competitions in Europe, the US and New Zealand. He reached the finals in the NZ Freeski Open and was selected for the British Halfpipe team and his debut World Championships in 2013. He is the first British man to land a Double Cork 1260 in a halfpipe.[ citation needed ]
Speight narrowly missed out on the 2014 Winter Olympics. He then went on to receive lottery funding from U.K Sport and qualified for the Olympics in South Korea in 2018. He finished the 2018 season ranked 15th in the world before retiring from competitions in 2019.
Speight also studied History at the University of Manchester. He received support through a sport scholarship and TASS funding, combining his sport and studies for 4 years before graduating in 2016.[ citation needed ]
Aerial skiing or aerials is a freestyle skiing discipline where athletes ski down a slope to launch themselves off a kicker and perform multiple twists and flips before landing on an inclined landing hill. Aerialists are scored on their jumps based on air, form and landing with their score multiplied by the degree of difficulty of the jump they performed.
Half-pipe skiing is the sport of riding snow skis on a half-pipe. Competitors perform a series of tricks while going down the pipe. The current world record for highest jump in a half-pipe is held by Joffrey Pollet-Villard, with 26 feet 3 inches. The sport is considered to be dangerous compared to other sports, and helmets are required to be worn during competitions. Half-pipe skiing has been part of the Winter X Games since 2002, and made its Olympic debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. David Wise of the United States of America became the first Olympic champion in this discipline with a total of 92.00 points.

Rowan Cheshire is a British freestyle skier, specialising in the halfpipe. Cheshire competed in the 2013 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Voss, Norway, where she finished 17th. She won a bronze medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Valmalenco. In January 2014 she became the first British female skier to win a halfpipe competition on the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup when she took the halfpipe event at a meeting in Calgary. This was the first Freestyle World Cup win for a British female skier since Jilly Curry won an aerials competition in 1992.

Cassie Sharpe is a Canadian freestyle skier. Sharpe became the Olympic champion in women's halfpipe after winning gold in Pyeongchang, South Korea at the 2018 Winter Olympics. She won a silver medal at the 2015 World Championships in halfpipe in Kreischberg and won gold and bronze in superpipe at the Winter X Games in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
