Phu Tho Horse Racing Ground was the only place in Ho Chi Minh City and in Vietnam that organized horse racing. The racing ground was founded by the French colonists during French Indochina. It is situated in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City.
It was the scene of a major battle between the Viet Cong and the Army of the Republic of Vietnam and the United States Army during the Tet Offensive. [1]
Phu Tho racecourse was built by the French in 1932 with an area of 444,540 m2. From May 31, 2011, the racecourse was closed by decision of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City. [2]
The People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), officially the Vietnam People's Army, also recognized as the Vietnamese Army or the People's Army, is the military force of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the armed wing of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Võ Nguyên Giáp was a militarily self-taught general of the People's Army of Vietnam (PAVN), communist revolutionary and politician. Regarded as one of the greatest military strategists of the 20th century, Giáp commanded Vietnamese communist forces in various wars. He served as the military commander of the Việt Minh and later the PAVN from 1941 to 1972, as the minister of defence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and later Socialist Republic of Vietnam in 1946–1947 and from 1948 to 1980, and as deputy prime minister from 1955 to 1991. He was also a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

During the Tết Offensive, he was the highest senior North Vietnamese officer in South Vietnam. He was the first chief of staff of the Vietnam People's Army, and was responsible for key military forces in North Vietnam. He was also Chief of Staff in the Battle of Điện Biên Phủ.

Phu Tho Indoor Sport Stadium is a multi-purpose indoor arena, located in District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, within walking distance from the 1932-built Phú Thọ Horse Racing Ground. The stadium was constructed for 2003 Southeast Asian Games. Although not officially recognized, the stadium is usually home to Vietnam national futsal team. It has a capacity of 5,000 people for sporting events and a full-house capacity of around 8,000.

The battle of Cholon and Phú Thọ Racetrack began during the early hours of 31 January 1968 and continued until 11 February 1968. The attacks by Vietcong (VC) forces were one of several major attacks around Saigon in the first days of the Tet offensive. The attacks were repulsed with the VC suffering heavy losses and substantial damage to the densely populated area of Cholon.
