Phase One Endurance is a motorcycle endurance team, currently competing in the FIM Endurance World Championship. They were formed in 1985 by Russell Benney and Martin Prout. They won the Endurance World Championship title in 1993, 2000, and 2003. [1]
Phase One Endurance secured 10th place in their class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans race after a lot of turmoil and 2 crashes during the night. From starting in 15th, they worked their way up through the field to 3rd before riders James Haydon and James McBride both crashed during the night. After losing a lot of time the team managed to get back up to 10th place in their class again before the end. [2] [3]
After a poor start to the season, Phase One Endurance achieved 4th place in both the Oschersleben 8hr race, and the Bol D'or 24hr race [4] in which they came 8th overall. [5] At the last race of the year in Qatar they were fighting for the lead, with rider Glen Richards on board, when a crash forced a long push-in from Glen Richards which pushed them down to dead last. [6] They eventually finished this race 9th in their class.[ citation needed ]
Phase One is using 2009 Yamaha YZF-R1s ridden by Pedro Vallcanaras, Damian Cudlin, and Alex Cudlin. [7]
Endurance racing is a form of motorsport racing which is meant to test the durability of equipment and endurance of participants. Teams of multiple drivers attempt to cover a large distance in a single event, with participants given a break with the ability to change during the race. Endurance races can be run either to cover a set distance in laps as quickly as possible, or to cover as much distance as possible over a preset amount of time.
David Checa is a Spanish professional motorcycle road racer. He is four time FIM Endurance World Champion, winning the title in 2004, 2014, 2016–17 and 2018–19. In 2016 he was the French Superbike Champion. He previously competed for two years in the Superbike World Championship. He currently competes in the FIM Endurance World Championship aboard a Kawasaki ZX-10R and the RFME Superstock 1000 Championship aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1. He's a triple winner of the 24 Hours Moto of Le Mans endurance race, in 2005 and 2017 on Yamaha and in 2019 with Kawasaki. He also won the Bol d'Or 24-hour motorcycle endurance race twice on Circuit Paul Ricard. In 2007 and 2017 both on a Yamaha.
The Bol d’Or is a 24-hour endurance race for motorcycles, held annually in France. The race is part of the FIM Endurance World Championship. The riding of each bike is now shared by a team of three riders.
Jean-Michel Bayle is a French former professional motorcycle racer. He was one of the most successful riders of his era, achieving success at the highest levels in both motocross and road racing.
Sylvain Guintoli is a French professional motorcycle racer and race analyst for television. He was FIM World Superbike Champion in 2014. Until the Suzuki MotoGP team's withdrawal from racing in 2022, he was contracted as their test and development rider, with occasional race entries as a wild card or replacement rider.
Sébastien Gimbert is a professional motorcycle road racer. He currently competes in the Endurance FIM World Championship aboard a Honda CBR1000RR. His greatest success has come in the Endurance World Championship, and the bulk of his career has been spent on Yamaha YZF-R1 with more recent seasons spent on BMW S1000RR and Honda CBR1000RR motorcycles.
Terence William Rymer is an English former professional motorcycle road racer turned car and truck racer. Rymer won over 200 races in 20 years of competition during his motorcycle and car racing career.
Marc Fontan is a French former professional motorcycle racer. He competed in the Grand Prix road racing world championships from 1978 to 1983.
The Endurance World Championship is the premier worldwide endurance championship in motorcycle road racing. The championship season consists of a series of endurance races held on permanent racing facilities. The results of each race are combined to determine three World Championships – riders, teams and manufacturers.
Mike Di Meglio is a French Grand Prix motorcycle road racer and three-time world champion claiming the 2008 125cc title, as well as winning the 2022 & 2017-2018 FIM Endurance World Championship. Since the 2018–19 FIM EWC season, Di Meglio has raced for F.C.C. TSR Honda France. From 2019 on, he also competes in the MotoE World Cup aboard an Energica Ego Corsa. He twice won the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in 2017 on Yamaha and in 2020 on the Honda CBR. He also twice won the Bol d'Or 24-hour motorcycle endurance race on Circuit Paul Ricard. In 2017 Yamaha and 2018 Honda.
Fabien Foret born 29 January 1973 in Angoulême, France, is a professional motorcycle racer currently competing in the FIM Endurance World Championship aboard a Kawasaki ZX-10R. He has spent most of his career in the Supersport World Championship.
The 24 Heures Motos is a motorcycle endurance race held annually since 1978 on the Bugatti Circuit, Le Mans, Sarthe, France. The race is organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) and is part of the Endurance FIM World Championship.
Broc Parkes is an Australian motorcycle racer, best known for his success in the Supersport World Championship. He currently races in the Endurance FIM World Championship aboard a Yamaha YZF-R1.
Gino Daniel Rea is an English motorcycle racer. In August 2022 he suffered serious injuries in a practice crash at the Suzuka 8 Hours. After emergency hospital treatment including an induced coma, after a month he was transferred by a specialised medical aircraft from Japan to London.
Alexander Kenneth Josef Cudlin is a motorcycle racer from Australia. His elder brother, Damian Cudlin, is also a motorcycle racer. He competes in the Endurance FIM World Championship aboard a Suzuki GSX-R1000.
Matthieu Lagrive is a French motorcycle racer. He races in the International Road Race Championship, aboard a Yamaha YZF-R6. He is a four times FIM Endurance World Champion.
The 2016–17 FIM Endurance World Championship was the 38th season of the FIM Endurance World Championship, a motorcycle racing series co-organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Eurosport. This season marked the first move to a winter schedule for the championship, with the season starting at the Bol d'Or in September 2016 and concluding at the Suzuka 8 Hours in July 2017. The European rounds were held during the winter to avoid conflicts with the MotoGP and Superbike schedules. GMT 94 Yamaha won their 3rd title.
The 2019–20 FIM Endurance World Championship was the 41st season of the FIM Endurance World Championship, a motorcycle racing series co–organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Eurosport. The season started at the Bol d'Or on the 21 September 2019 and ended with the 12 Hours of Estoril on the 27 September 2020.
The 2021 FIM Endurance World Championship was the 42nd season of the FIM Endurance World Championship, a motorcycle racing series co-organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Eurosport Events.
The 2022 FIM Endurance World Championship was the 43rd season of the FIM Endurance World Championship, a motorcycle racing series co-organised by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and Warner Bros. Discovery's Discovery Sports Events.
The 2022 season featured four rounds, starting with the 45th 24 Heures Motos at Le Mans, followed by the return of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the 24H SPA EWC Motos, the Suzuka 8 Hours in Japan and the 100th anniversary Bol d'Or at Circuit Paul Ricard in France.
