Philip Raskin (born 1947 in Glasgow) is a Scottish artist who has achieved notability within the contemporary Scottish art scene. He specialises in painting landscapes and seascapes. His works have been the subject of many exhibitions and have been sold throughout the world. He is the father of TV presenter and antiques expert Natasha Raskin.

Early life and career

Raskin was born in Glasgow in 1947 and studied at the Glasgow School of Art in the 1960s, but did not complete his course due to his father's sudden death. He was a restaurant proprietor for twenty years before becoming a full-time artist. His work and limited editions are on sale in galleries throughout the UK and the world. [1]

His notability in the contemporary Scottish art scene has been recognised in several periodicals and publications. [2] [3] [4] His works are widely available as posters. [5]

His daughter, the TV presenter and antiques expert Natasha Raskin, was born in 1986. It was through the auctioneers McTear's selling his work that Natasha commenced work with them, leading to her television career in various antiques and auction shows. [6] Father and daughter received media coverage in 2015 when the auctioneer sold his work. [7]

The Scottish Colourists were a group of four painters, three from Edinburgh, whose Post-Impressionist work, though not universally recognised initially, came to have a formative influence on contemporary Scottish art and culture. The four artists, Francis Cadell, John Duncan Fergusson, Leslie Hunter and Samuel Peploe, were prolific painters spanning the turn of the twentieth century until the beginnings of World War II. While now banded as one group with a collective achievement and a common sense of British identity, it is a misnomer to believe their artwork or their painterly careers were heterogeneous.

Natasha Raskin Sharp is a Scottish television presenter, and antiques and art expert, especially in Scottish contemporary art, best known for her appearances on television. The daughter of contemporary Scottish artist Philip Raskin, she has appeared in programmes in the UK and the US including Antiques Road Trip, Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, Flog It!, Bargain Hunt, For What It's Worth and Baggage Battles.

James Connell & Sons was an art gallery business and publisher of etchings in Glasgow and London. It was established by James Hodge Connell who retired in 1908, leaving the business to his sons James D. Connell, Thomas Connell, and David Connell. Dealing mainly in etchings and works on paper, artists whose work was sold through the gallery included: Andrew Affleck, Eugene Bejot, David Young Cameron, Hester Frood, Gertrude Ellen Hayes, Henry Rushbury, Nathaniel Sparks, Alfred W. Strutt, Edward Millington Synge, William Walker (engraver), Ernest Herbert Whydale and Mary G. W. Wilson.
