Philippe Hurel is a French composer of contemporary music and the artistic director of the Ensemble Court-Circuit.
Hurel studied violin, analysis, composition and musicology at the Regional Conservatory of Toulouse. From 1981, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he was a student in the classes of Ivo Malec and Betsy Jolas. In 1985-1986 and again in 1988-1989 he took part in musical research at the IRCAM. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

IRCAM is a French institute dedicated to the research of music and sound, especially in the fields of avant garde and electro-acoustical art music. It is situated next to, and is organisationally linked with, the Centre Pompidou in Paris. The extension of the building was designed by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. Much of the institute is located underground, beneath the fountain to the east of the buildings.
