Pia Ranslet (born 3 July 1956, Allinge, Bornholm, Denmark) is a Danish painter and sculptor.
Pia Ranslet was born and raised in Bornholm, Denmark, eldest daughter to Tulla Blomberg Ranslet and Arne Ranslet. Her brother is sculptor Paul Ranslet. After graduating from high school she registered at Copenhagen University, studying Art history. In 1976 she enrolled in Danmarks Designskole and after receiving her diploma proceeded studying at Konstfack University-college in Stockholm, while teaching art students. From 1980 to 1986 she studied art at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm, where she was granted several scholarships allowing her to study in India, New York City and Egypt. She continued teaching art at Bornholms Højskole and Thorstedlund Kunsthøjskolen in Frederikssund. [1] Ranslet is married and has three sons. [2]
Ranslet's work stretches between expressionism and realism. [3] [4] She paints in front of her motives, and is a classic portraitist. Her landscapes feature mostly Bornholm-countryside views. She has solo-exhibited in many European countries, including: Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Luxembourg, [5] France, Belgium, Spain and Switzerland. She is publicly represented in the Swedish National Art Council[ permanent dead link ] (Statens Konstråd), National Labour Market Board (Arbetsmarknadstyrelsen) and Swedish Employers Association (Arbetsgivareföreningen).[ citation needed ]
Bornholm is a Danish island in the Baltic Sea, to the east of the rest of Denmark, south of Sweden, northeast of Germany and north of Poland.
Emil Nolde was a German-Danish painter and printmaker. He was one of the first Expressionists, a member of Die Brücke, and was one of the first oil painting and watercolor painters of the early 20th century to explore color. He is known for his brushwork and expressive choice of colors. Golden yellows and deep reds appear frequently in his work, giving a luminous quality to otherwise somber tones. Anna Sofia Palm de Rosa was a Swedish artist and landscape painter. In the 1890s she became one of Sweden's most popular painters with her watercolours of steamers and sailing ships and scenes of Stockholm. She also painted a memorable picture of a game of cards in Skagen's Brøndums Hotel while she spent a summer with the Skagen Painters. At the age of 36, Anna Palm left Sweden for good, spending the rest of her life in the south of Italy, where she married an infantry officer.

Anna Katarina Boberg, née Scholander, was a Swedish artist married to prominent architect Ferdinand Boberg. Anna Scholander was the daughter of architect Fredrik Wilhelm Scholander and the granddaughter of Axel Nyström. Boberg was a person of many artistic pursuits; initially she worked with ceramics and textiles and besides painting she also worked with set design and writing, for example. She was of an artistic family, but never received any formal training in the arts, and is considered an autodidact. Many of her paintings are of northern Norway, which became Boberg's main focus for many years after a trip there in 1901. These works were not received very well in Sweden, but did much better in Paris. Boberg spent a great deal of time in the area near Lofoten in Norway, where she eventually had a cabin, and she made many of those trips on her own.
Sigrid Sandström is a Swedish artist and a professor of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki. Her work is characterized by graphic abstraction, an embrace of color and difference in scale, and an array of techniques used to apply paint and other materials to canvas, ranging from cloths and rugs, to masking with tape, squeegee-ing and smearing, and collaging. She has also worked in film and video, most notably for her 2005 exhibition Her Black Flags at the Mills College Art Museum in Oakland, CA, and in sculpture and installation. Artforum critic Naomi Fry, reviewing a 2007 show at Edward Thorp Gallery, cited the artist's interest in landscape as subject and noted that Sandström "also grapples here with painting’s essential difficulty in the face of the sublime. As the works consistently teeter on the verge of abstraction, the interplay between a more traditional naturalism and geometric fragmentation provides a salient tension."
Ida Emma Charlotta Gisiko-Spärck (1859–1940) was a Swedish painter, who became a member of the Önningeby artists colony on Åland. She is remembered for her landscapes in oils.
