Picsolve International Ltd. is a provider of imagery capture, distribution platforms and retailing solutions for the leisure, theme park and tourist industries. Picsolve is based in Derby, UK and has offices in the US, South East Asia and the Middle East. Picsolve was formerly known as Rx Technology Europe Ltd. [1] Picsolve has operations at ~500 sites around the world and employs up to 1,500 staff throughout the year. [2]

History

Rx Technology was founded in 1994 in Derby, UK and later changed its name to Picsolve International Ltd in 2002. [1] The business was acquired by Meridian Equity from its founding owner managers in May 2006. [3] In July 2008 Picsolve was bought by Fidelity Equity Partners in a management buy out worth £33m. The deal included a senior debt package of 13m provided by Royal Bank of Scotland. [4]

Investment

In 2012 Picsolve received a £10m investment from private backers to invest in capital and wipe out debt. [2] In November 2013 it was announced that Picsolve had received a US$13m investment from Moonray Investors, part of Fidelity Worldwide Investment. [5]

Transition

The company entered administration on 4 May 2020 with Deloitte appointed as administrators. [6] [7] The company then merged with Tel Aviv-based AI specialists Pomvom, closing the deal on 19 June 2020. [8]

Products

Picsolve provide a range of photography services to theme parks and leisure attractions including ride photography, walkabout & event photography, ride video, green screen experiences, waterpark photography and digital products. [9] In 2012 Picsolve launched GSX [10] which uses green screen technology to superimpose people into videos. [2]

Ride Photography

Picsolve installs and operates ride photography on rollercoasters (sometimes referred to as on-ride photography) and rides at more than 350 locations throughout the world. Picsolve technology employs shutterless cameras capable of capturing between 4 and 30 frames per second at 16 megapixel resolution. These cameras have the ability to capture images with an equivalent shutter speed of 1/10,000th second. [11]

Walkabout & Event Photography

Picsolve provide a walkabout photography service at a range of locations including Alton Towers, Atlantic, The Palm and Legoland Windsor.

Ride video

Ride videos provide video footage of theme park rides for guests. Picsolve has installations that feature both on-board and off-board footage which are combined to create footage which is sold to guests on DVD. [2]

GSX (Green screen experience)

Using green screen technology Picsolve are able to provide theme park and attraction visitors with superimposed photos. Pictures are taken against either a green or blue screen and then superimposed to make visitors appear against a different backdrop. In 2012 the GSX system won the IAAPA 2012 Brass Ring Award Best New Product in the Games and Merchandise category. [12]

Picsolve offer image capture solutions for use with water-based rides. [2]

Picsolve provide services that allow photos to be accessed online, on mobile [2] and shared across social networks.

PortAventura World Family holiday resort in Spain

PortAventura World is an entertainment resort in Salou and Vila-seca, Tarragona, on the Costa Daurada in Catalonia, Spain. It was built around the PortAventura Park theme park, which attracts around 3.5 million visitors per year, making it the most visited theme park in Spain and the sixth most visited theme park in Europe. Warner Bros. Movie World is a theme park on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Owned and operated by Village Roadshow's Theme Parks division, the park opened on 3 June 1991. It is part of a 154-hectare (380.5-acre) entertainment precinct, with the adjacent Village Roadshow Studios and nearby Wet'n'Wild Gold Coast, among other sites operated by Village. Dollywood's Splash Country is a 35-acre (14 ha) water park located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, adjacent to the Dollywood theme park. The park's central theme rests around entertainer Dolly Parton's childhood swimming in the rivers of the Great Smoky Mountains. Dollywood's Splash Country operates from May through September.

ProSlide Technology, Inc. is a Canadian designer and manufacturer of water rides and water park resorts. They design and manufacture both traditional slides and innovative rides such as water coasters, funnel-shaped TORNADO slides, and Bowl slides. ProSlide has received attention for being the first water slide manufacturer to build a water slide using linear induction motors and for designing the Mammoth watercoaster which was named the world's longest watercoaster by Guinness World Records in 2016. Since 1986, ProSlide has developed and designed water rides for water parks in over 40 countries around the world.

Green Lantern Coaster is a steel roller coaster at Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. The ride is themed after DC Comics' Green Lantern and is located within the park's DC Comics superhero hub. The ride is an El Loco roller coaster manufactured by S&S Worldwide, characterised by a tight circuit featuring a beyond-vertical drop and an outward banked turn. When it opened in 2011, it held the record for having the second steepest drop in the world among roller coasters, and the steepest drop in the Southern Hemisphere, the latter of which is a record it still holds as of 2020. Green Lantern Coaster officially opened on 23 December 2011.

Wonder Mountain's Guardian is a 4D, interactive dark ride roller coaster at the Canada's Wonderland amusement park located in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Park management first proposed a dark ride located inside Wonder Mountain around 2004. Technology and budget limitations at the time delayed the project's planning and design stages until 2011. The steel track was manufactured by Art Engineering; it is approximately 304.8 metres (1,000 ft) long and has a maximum height of about 18.3 metres (60 ft). The ride also features one of the largest drop tracks in the world reaching a height of 9.1 metres (30 ft).

Knott's Bear-y Tales: Return To The Fair is a 4D interactive dark ride located at Knott's Berry Farm theme park in Buena Park, California. Designed by Triotech in conjunction with Knott's Berry Farm, the ride opened to the public on May 21, 2021, and season passholders were given access beginning May 6, 2021. The ride is a follow-up to the defunct dark ride Knott's Bear-y Tales, which operated in the same location from 1975 to 1986. The interactive dark ride features characters Boysenbear and Girlsenbear as they travel to the County Fair and pass through several scenes reminiscent of the original dark ride. Guests board red colored vehicles equipped with boysenberry jelly blasters, and the theme focuses on riders stopping Crafty Coyote and his mischievous pups. The attraction replaced Voyage to the Iron Reef, which permanently closed on January 5, 2020.
