Tan Teng-pho, was a Taiwanese painter and politician. In 1926, his oil painting Street of Chiayi was featured in the seventh Imperial Art Exhibition in Japan, which was the first time a Taiwanese artist's work could be displayed at the exhibition. Tan devoted his life to education and creation, and was greatly concerned about the development of humanist culture in Taiwan. He was not only devoted to the improvement of his own painting, but also to the promotion of the aesthetic education of the Taiwanese people. He was killed as a result of the February 28 Incident, a 1947 uprising in Taiwan which was repressed by the Kuomintang (KMT).

New Paradise & God Hates You were each sold for over $1 million HKD and Anecdotes About Spirits and Immortals sold for a record $2.64 million HKD, the highest international auction price ever commanded by a contemporary Taiwan artist.
Liu Yiqian is a Chinese billionaire investor and art collector. An autodidact who formerly worked as a taxi driver, he has built his fortune since the mid-1980s by investing in stock trading, real estate and pharmaceuticals.
Dimitri Mavrommatis is a Greek born asset manager and art collector based in Switzerland with additional residences in Paris, London and New York City. He was on the European advisory board of Christie's and the international advisory board of Sotheby's. In 2014 Sotheby's Geneva featured Mavrommatis' gems in their November jewelry sale in an event the auction house titled "The Passion of Collecting". In 2012 ARTnews editor Milton Esterow listed Mavrommatis in the magazine's yearly top ten list of the world's 200 premiere art collectors. In addition to possessing a sizable collection of contemporary art including significant pieces by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol and Christopher Wool, Mavrommatis owns one of the most important collections of Sèvres porcelain on the planet. He also sold at Sotheby's one of the most important jewelry collections in the world with two new records for a sapphire and a ruby.

The artistic heritage of Taiwan is extremely diverse with multiple major influences and periods. Traditionally most arts were practiced for religious or ceremonial purposes. Art collecting has a long history in Taiwan and today Taiwan is one of the world's most significant art markets.
Untitled is a painting created by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in 1982. The artwork was sold at Christie's for $57.3 million in May 2016. At the time, that was the record for Basquiat's most expensive painting. In 2022, it was sold for $85 million at Phillips, becoming Basquiat's third highest auction sale and fourth most expensive painting.
Flesh and Spirit is a painting created by American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat c. 1982–83. The multi-panel painting, which is one of the largest ever made by Basquiat, sold for $30.7 million at Sotheby's in May 2018.
