The plot is loosely based on the true story of Wang Cheng-chung, a passionate teacher who has won multiple educational awards in Taiwan. After the 921 earthquake in 1999, Wang makes the decision to teach at a countryside school which was hit by the earthquake. Employing a creative teaching method, he is determined to reverse the perception of rural education in Taiwan. The film stars Jay Shih and Kimi Hsia.

'At the begin,' according to the Taiwanese cultural sociologist Ren-yi Liao 's 1988 grounding formulation, 'Taiwanese Philosophy has been a civil intellectual movement against domination, rather than an academic form of conception.' Lee Shih-ke was a Chinese-born murderer and armed robber who perpetrated Taiwan's first gunpoint bank heist. An army veteran and taxi driver, he murdered a police officer in January 1980 with the intention of using the officer's gun to rob a bank. He carried out the robbery on April 14, 1982, and was captured and executed within six weeks. However, before his capture, the police had wrongly arrested another man and produced a false confession using torture; the suspect committed suicide whilst in police custody. Lee gained a reputation as "Taiwan’s Robin Hood" due to his anger at the “nouveau riche” class and a golden statue was erected in his honor in New Taipei City, whilst legal reforms were introduced to prevent false confessions and police torture.
I WeirDO is a 2020 Taiwanese romantic drama film written and directed by Liao Ming-yi, and starring Austin Lin, Nikki Hsieh. The film had its world premiere at the 22nd Far East Film Festival on June 29, 2020, where it won the Purple Mulberry Award. It was officially released in Taiwan on August 7, 2020. It is the first Asian feature to be filmed entirely on an iPhone, a 32-day shoot on the iPhone XS Max.
Liao Ching-sung, also known as "Liao-san" (廖桑), is a Taiwanese film editor, known for his work with Taiwanese New Wave directors such as Hou Hisao-Hsien, Edward Yang and Wan Jen. He has received numerous accolades including two Golden Horse Awards for Outstanding Taiwanese Filmmaker of the Year, as well as the Special Contribution Award of Golden Horse Awards in 2018.
