Pilipinas Legends is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines organized by Sports Legends Managers Inc., and composed of former players from the Philippine Basketball Association and minor leagues. Chito Loyzaga is the league's commissioner. [1] Founded by Filipino businessman, Dick Balajadia, he said that "We created this league for our basketball stars to continue inspiring the youth, as well as give back to the community by participating in our advocacy centered on nation-building." Philippine Basketball Association

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is a men's professional basketball league in the Philippines composed of twelve company-branded franchised teams. Founded in 1975, it is the first professional basketball league in Asia and is the second oldest continuously professional basketball league existing in the world after the NBA, established before the "open era" of basketball in 1990 where FIBA allowed longstanding domestic leagues, which mostly had predated the PBA, to become professional. The league's regulations are a hybrid of rules from the NBA and FIBA.

Joaquin "Chito" C. Loyzaga is a Filipino former basketball player and basketball commissioner. He is currently the Athletics Director of the National University.

On October 17, 2015, it was announced that the league will take over control of the Pacquiao Powervit Pilipinas Aguilas in the ASEAN Basketball League, led by the Legends' founder Dick Balajadia. [3]

ASEAN Basketball League sports league

The ASEAN Basketball League, often abbreviated to the ABL, is a men's professional basketball league in East and Southeast Asia. It includes six teams from Southeast Asian nations, three teams from China, and one from Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). The league was proposed in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and launched on 1 October 2009, with six clubs from six different countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) competing in the league's inaugural 2009–10 season.

Among the initial players who expressed interest to participate in the tournament are Marlou Aquino, Alvin Patrimonio, Nelson Asaytono, Jerry Codiñera, Willie Miller, Kenneth Duremdes, Poch Juinio, Aries Dimaunahan and Johnedel Cardel.

Marlou Aquino Filipino basketball player

Marlou Bucao Aquino is a Filipino professional basketball player who currently plays for Bacoor Strikers in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). During his prime he was known by fans as "The Skyscraper" and was, along with Dennis Espino, one-half of the so-called "Twin Towers" of the now-disbanded Sta. Lucia Realtors.

Alvin Vergara Patrimonio is a Filipino retired professional basketball player from the Philippine Basketball Association and is the current team manager for the Purefoods Star Hotshots.

Nelson Asaytono is a Filipino retired professional basketball player who played for Purefoods, Swift/Sunkist/Pop Cola, San Miguel Beer, and Red Bull in the PBA during his 17-year career.

Teams

MX3, a leading supplement brand, and GoldLife, a multi-level marketing company have confirmed their participation in the 2015 inaugural tournament. [4] [5] A premiere oil company and a supplement brand also expressed interest in sponsoring their own respective team. [2]

Exhibition games

During the Kadayawan Festival in Davao City last August 17, MX3 Pilipinas Legends beat the Davao All-Stars during the exhibition game at Almendras Gym in Davao City. Egay Billones, Gerome Ejercito, Nelson Asaytono, Rodney Santos, Johnny Abarrientos and Alvin Patrimonio are among the PBA legends who played in the exhibition game. [6]

Kadayawan Festival

The Kadayawan Festival is an annual festival in the city of Davao in the Philippines. Its name derives from the friendly greeting "Madayaw", from the Dabawenyo word "dayaw", meaning good, valuable, superior or beautiful. The festival is a celebration of life, a thanksgiving for the gifts of nature, the wealth of culture, the bounties of harvest and serenity of living. It is held every third week of August.

Ernesto Billiones or better known as Egay Billiones is a Filipino Professional basketball player who plays for the Muntinlupa Cagers of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. He has played int the Philippine Basketball Association and the ASEAN Basketball League.

Willie V. Miller, Jr. is a Filipino former professional basketball player. He last played for the Pilipinas MX3 Kings of the ASEAN Basketball League. He has started at the point guard position mostly but could also play the shooting guard spot. Miller has won four PBA championships and two PBA Most Valuable Player Awards.

Sunday Salvacion is a Filipino professional basketball player who is a playing assistant coach of the Navotas Clutch, a team in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. He also played in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He plays the small forward and shooting guard positions.

Jondan Y. Salvador is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Marikina Shoemasters of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). He was drafted by the Purefoods Chunkee Giants in the 2005 PBA draft. He was a former Mythical Five awardee with the CSB Blazers during his NCAA years.

The 1994 Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs season was the 7th season of the franchise in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). Known as Coney Island Ice Cream Stars in the All-Filipino Cup.

The 1989 PBA Fiesta All-Filipino Conference Finals was the best-of-7 series basketball championship of the 1989 PBA All-Filipino Conference, and the conclusion of the conference's playoffs. The San Miguel Beermen and Purefoods Hotdogs played for the 43rd championship contested by the league. This is the first All-Filipino finals series that will be competed in a best-of-seven format.

Pilipinas MX3 Kings were a Filipino basketball team that played in the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL). The team only played one season in the ABL, mainly because of financial difficulties after Manny Pacquiao pulled out his financial support from the team, and internal disputes within the team.

Charles Hilton Mammie is a Sierra Leonean professional basketball player who last played for the Pilipinas MX3 Kings in the ASEAN Basketball League. In December 2015, Mammie, along with Emmerson Oreta, Sunday Salvacion, Adrian Celada, Jondan Salvador, and Chad Alonzo, were released by the Pilipinas MX3 Kings after a roster overhaul. He was later replaced by Shaun Pruitt.

Adrian Celada is a Filipino professional basketball player for the Manila Stars of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. He played college ball for the Arellano Chiefs in the NCAA. He was undrafted in the 2012 PBA draft.

Emmerson Serrano Oreta is a Filipino professional basketball player who last played for the Pilipinas MX3 Kings of the ASEAN Basketball League. He was undrafted in the 2005 PBA draft. He is currently playing for the Department of Agriculture Food Masters in the UNTV Cup.
