Phillippa Mills is a British senior police officer. From 2021 to 2023 she was Chief Constable of West Mercia Police. She is now an Assistant Commissioner in the Metropolitan Police, heading, since 2024, the Met Operations portfolio. [1]
Having studied at the University of Kent at Canterbury, Mills then served in the Metropolitan Police from 1996 to 2017, rising to Chief Superintendent (Temporary Commander), working in Westminster, Redbridge, Waltham Forest and Hackney boroughs, leading on public order events such as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton and overseeing major changes to the Met's Command and Control system. She was heading Covert Policing and Intelligence by May 2017, when she transferred to Essex Police. [3] [2] There she was promoted to Assistant Chief Constable, then in March 2019 to Deputy Chief Constable, in which role she led the initial response to the Essex lorry deaths that October. [3] [4]
The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner announced on 30 June that she was his preferred candidate as the next Chief Constable of West Mercia Police. [3] Mills' appointment was confirmed on 13 July, making her the first woman to lead West Mercia. [5] [6] On 8 August 2023 she announced she would be leaving West Mercia Police to return to the Metropolitan Police as an Assistant Commissioner. [7] [2]

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), formerly and still commonly known as the Metropolitan Police, or simply the Met, is the territorial police force responsible for law enforcement and crime prevention within Greater London. In addition, it is responsible for specialised tasks throughout the United Kingdom, such as dealing with counter-terrorism throughout the UK, and the protection of certain individuals, including the monarch, royal family, governmental officials, and other designated figures. It is also referred to as an eponym as Scotland Yard or the Yard, after the location of its original headquarters in Great Scotland Yard, Whitehall in the 19th century. The Met is presently headquartered at New Scotland Yard, on the Victoria Embankment.
West Mercia Police, formerly the West Mercia Constabulary, is the territorial police force responsible for policing the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire in England. The force area covers 2,868 square miles (7,430 km2) making it the fourth largest police area in England and Wales. The resident population of the area is 1.19 million Its name comes from the ancient kingdom of Mercia.

Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, usually just Assistant Commissioner (AC), is the third highest rank in London's Metropolitan Police, ranking below Deputy Commissioner and above Deputy Assistant Commissioner. There have usually been four officers in the rank; however, as of December 2023, there are seven owing to the appointment of a new portfolio, Trust and Legitimacy, and the continuing secondments of Rob Beckley to Operation Resolve, the criminal investigation into the Hillsborough Disaster, and Stephen Kavanagh to Interpol. Sir Stephen House is a Scottish police officer who served as Acting Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in 2022. After beginning his career at Sussex Police in 1981, House held positions in Northamptonshire Police and West Yorkshire Police, then became Assistant Chief Constable of Staffordshire Police in 1998. In 2001, he joined the Metropolitan Police as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner, remaining there until 2007, when he was appointed Chief Constable of Strathclyde Police.
The Metropolitan Police of Greater London, England is organised into five main directorates, each headed by an Assistant Commissioner, and four civilian-staffed support departments previously under the umbrella of Met Headquarters, each headed by a Chief Officer, the equivalent civilian grade to Assistant Commissioner. Simon Byrne, is an English former senior police officer. He served as Chief Constable of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) from July 2019 until he resigned in September 2023. He was the Deputy Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police from 2009 to 2011 and the Assistant Commissioner for Territorial Policing in the Metropolitan Police Service from 2011 to 2014. He then served as Chief Constable of Cheshire Constabulary from 2014 to 2017.

Dame Lynne Gillian Owens, is a senior police officer in the United Kingdom. She was made interim Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service in September 2022 before being confirmed as that role's permanent holder in February 2023, the first-ever such female holder.
The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner (PCC), an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by West Mercia Police in the English counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the West Mercia Police Authority. The current incumbent is John Campion, who represents the Conservative Party.
Helen Mary King is a British academic administrator and retired police officer. Since April 2017, she has been Principal of St Anne's College, Oxford. Her previous career was as a police officer, serving with the Cheshire Constabulary, the Merseyside Police, and the Metropolitan Police Service. She retired from the police in 2017, having reached the rank of Assistant Commissioner.
Louisa Rolfe is a senior British police officer. She served as Assistant Commissioner for Met Operations in the Metropolitan Police from 2020 to 2022, and at the same rank for Frontline Policing from 2022 to 2024. She was Deputy Chief Constable of West Midlands Police from 2016 to 2020.
Helen Ball is a retired senior British police officer. During part of her final year in policing she served as Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service. At a national level she has been senior coordinator for counter terrorism policing (2013–2016) and strategic leadership advisor to the College of Policing.
Barbara Ann Gray is a senior police officer in the United Kingdom. Serving with the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) from 1989 onwards, she transferred to the Metropolitan Police in April 2021 as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner to fill a post left vacant by Lucy D'Orsi's appointment as Chief Constable of the British Transport Police, with her promotion to Assistant Commissioner (Professionalism) announced in September 2022.
Matt Twist is a senior British police officer, serving in the Metropolitan Police from 1996 to 2013 and 2016 to the present, with the intervening period spent in Surrey Police. It was announced in September 2022 that he would become Temporary Assistant Commissioner for Met Operations, in which role he succeeded Louisa Rolfe; he was appointed to that rank permanently in August 2023. Since 2024, he has been Assistant Commissioner for Frontline Policing.
