Pitambar Acharya (born: January 15, 1965) is the Senior Advocate at the Orissa High Court and is the present Advocate General of Orissa. [1] [2] [3]

Career

He completed his M.A. from Utkal University in 1987.During his college career he was elected President of the B.J.B. College Students' Union in 1984 and President of the Utkal University Law College Students' Union in 1987. He was also the General Secretary of the Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar College Students' Union in 1982 [4] . His legal career began in 1991 when he joined the High Court Bar as an associate advocate under the mentorship of Mr. Gangadhar Rath, a former Advocate General of Orissa. Sri Acharya was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2011. Since then he has conducted over 10,000 cases of various legal domains including constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Corporate and Banking Laws. He fought the case before the Orissa High Court for re-opening of Ratna Bhandar of Jagannath Temple, Puri [5] .

Sri Acharya has been a standing counsel for several organizations, including the State Election Commission of Orissa, the Orissa Legislative Assembly. He has represented Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd., and GAIL India Ltd. [6] He contested the 2019 General Assembly Election from Hinjili Assembly constituency as the BJP candidate against former Chief minister Naveen Patnaik and was defeated by a reduced margin. [7] He also served as the State Vice President, Spokesperson and State Head for Legal & RTI Services of Bharatiya Janata Party Odisha [8] . He was elected to the Orissa State Bar Council in 2008 till 2013. He assumed the post of the Advocate General of Odisha on 19 July 2024. [9] [10]

He is Member Secretary of the Institute of Odia Studies and Research, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. He was instrumental in preparing the research documents, advocating the awarding of Classical Language status to Odia, forming Central Institute of Classical Odia, Odia University and implementation of the Odisha Official Language Act, 1954. He was awarded the Presidential Certificate of Honour and Maharshi Badrayan Vyas Samman – 2019 for Classical Odia.

S. Muralidhar is an Indian lawyer and a former Judge. He was the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court and a Judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and Delhi High Court. He has been designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India and presently pracising before the Supreme Court of India.

Hussain Rabi Gandhi was an Indian Odia writer of the late-twentieth century, a politician, a public intellectual and a cultural activist hailing from the Indian state of Odisha. Being a founder member of Biju Janata Dal, he served as the general secretary of the party from upon its formation in 1998 till 2005. In 1994 the title of Biplabi Loka Kabi was conferred upon him by the Mayor of Cuttack. He was also awarded with the title of Utkala Jyoti in 1996 by the then Deputy chief minister of Odisha, Basant Kumar Biswal on the behalf of Freedom Fighter's Organisation. Gandhi primarily wrote in Odia language and was bestowed with the Secular India Harmony Award in 1993 by the former President of India, Giani Zail Singh and with the Gangadhar Meher Kabita award in 2015 for his notable contributions to the field of Odia poetry. Hussain served as the President of Odisha Sahitya Akademi (2008–2010). He was famously known as the Gandhi of Korei and was regarded as a bridge between Western Odisha and Coastal Odisha. He also served as Lead Member of Smt. Nandini Satpathy Memorial Trust (SNSMT).

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Shyamamani Devi</span> Musical artist

Shyamamani Devi is a Odissi classical music vocalist composer. A disciple of Gurus Singhari Shyamsundar Kar and Balakrushna Dash, she is known for her popular renditions of classical Odissi music, such as Odissi, Chhanda, Champu, etc. authored by medieval Odia musician-poets such as Upendra Bhanja, Kabisurjya Baladeba Ratha, Banamali Dasa, Gopalakrusna and others. She is also known for her renditions of light music such as traditional Odia folk music ,Odia film music and adhunika songs. In 2022, she was awarded the Padma Shri for he contributions to Odissi music.
