Plague Vendor is an American rock band from Whittier, California started in 2008. The band have released three studio albums on Epitaph Records ;Free To Eat (2014), BLOODSWEAT (2016) and By Night (2019). [1]

History

Formation

Plague Vendor was formed in 2008 in Whittier, California, by vocalist Brandon Blaine, guitarist Jay Rogers, bassist Michael Perez, and drummer Luke Perine. [4]

The band's roots lie in their mutual interest for punk rock, which sparked their collaboration. Originating from Whittier, a conservative exurb, the band members draw influence from the punk scenes of Los Angeles and other areas. [5]

Debut Album: Free To Eat (2014)

In 2014, Plague Vendor signed with Epitaph Records and released their debut album, Free To Eat. The album received critical acclaim for its fusion of classic punk rock elements with modern sensibilities. [6]

In her review for the Sydney Morning Herald, Arne Sjostedt remarked on the energy of Plague Vendor's debut album, particularly noting the guitar riffs and vocals that grabbed her attention from the first track, Black Sap Scriptures. [7] This earned band as one of AP's "100 Bands You Need To Know" in 2014. [8]

BLOODSWEAT (2016)


In 2015, Plague Vendor followed up their debut with the release of their sophomore album, Bloodsweat. Produced by Stuart Sikes, the album further delved deeper into their signature blend of punk, post-punk, and hardcore. [9]

By Night (2019)

The band released their third studio album, By Night, in 2019. Produced by John Congleton, the album departed from their earlier sound, incorporating elements of synth and electronic drums while retaining the their punk roots. [10]

Plague Vendor's music blends the punk with post-punk sensibilities, incorporating aggressive guitar riffs, rhythms, and anthemic choruses. [11]

Their sound draws inspiration from classic punk rock albums while infusing modern elements, resulting in a sonic palette. [12]

The band classifies their sound as Graveyard Groove, It’s “something that’s on the eerie, darker side” but also “something you can shake it to. [4]

After touring in support of its previous studio album, The New America (2000), Gurewitz re-joined Bad Religion in 2001 after a seven-year hiatus. The band re-signed with Epitaph, and then began work on its first album for the label in over eight years. The album also marked the first album to feature Brooks Wackerman, who replaced former drummer Bobby Schayer.

Punk-O-Rama was the title given to a series of ten compilation albums published by Epitaph Records. The first volume was released in 1994, the second in 1996, and the rest annually from 1998 to 2005. The albums included artists from Epitaph's roster as well as from its subsidiary label ANTI- and its partnership labels Hellcat Records and Burning Heart Records. In total the series included 257 songs contributed by 88 different artists.

1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours is a compilation album comprising early recordings by American rock band Green Day, released October 1, 1991, on Lookout Records. Often erroneously referred to as the band's debut album, the compilation combines the band's actual debut 39/Smooth (1990) and its first two EPs 1,000 Hours (1989) and Slappy (1990), as suggested by the amalgamation of the titles of the debut album and two EPs for the resulting compilation album. The album includes one cover, "Knowledge", which was originally by influential California punk band Operation Ivy, whose singer, Jesse Michaels, contributed the artwork for the album.
