History and profile

Pohjalainen was established in 1903. It was based in Vaasa and part of the Ilkka-Yhtymä, which also owns the Seinäjoki local and regional paper Ilkka . [1]

As of 2009 Arno Ahosniemi was the editor-in-chief. [2] The paper had a circulation of 26,670 copies in 2009. Pohjalainen sold 22,598 copies in 2013. [3]

In September 2019 it was announced Pohjalainen and Ilkka would be merged into a single newspaper, known as Ilkka-Pohjalainen, starting 30 January 2020. [4] [5]

Allan Rauli Kristian "Allu" Tuppurainen is a Finnish actor and screenwriter residing in Vaasa. He began acting in Finnish film in the early 1970s and has made a number of appearances in Finnish film ever since, appearing in many films such as the 1983 James Bond spoof Agentti 000 ja kuoleman kurvit where he acted alongside actors such as Ilmari Saarelainen and Tenho Saurén.

The takeover of Vanha was an uprising by a number of students on November 25, 1968, at the Old Student House of the University of Helsinki in Finland. It occurred on the night of the 100th birthday of the university's student union. The rioters took over Vanha during the celebrations, demanding changes to the university's administration and the curriculum.

It publishes two of the major regional newspapers Pohjalainen and Ilkka and seven local/town newspapers. The parent company Ilkka-Yhtymä owns the subsidiaries I-Mediat Oy, which publishes the newspapers, I-print Oy, which is their printing house and a property management company for their facilities. Additionally, Ilkka-Yhtymä owns substantial stock in Alma Media, Arena Partners, Väli-Suomen Media and Yrittävä Suupohja. Ilkka-Yhtymä also cooperates with other regional newspapers in producing national political news and features. Its shares are listed on the Helsinki Stock Exchange; among Finnish companies, it is considered a medium-sized company. The 2015 revenue was €41.2 million and the operating profit 9.0%, with 4.8% ROI. The Group had 299 personnel.
