Port Tampa Negro School was a school for African-American children in Tampa, Florida.
In 1938, the school was nearly destroyed by a fire. Damages were estimated at $2500 to $3500. [1]
In 1948, the school was upgraded with $40,000 as a part of a larger bond issue. Three new classrooms were added, including one longer classroom to be used as for larger assemblies. It also included a small kitchen and janitor's room, and was then upgraded to nine grades. Junior high students were transported to nearby Carver Negro Junior High. [2] In the 1950s it briefly served as a High School.
In 1959 the Hillsborough County Public Schools provided Port Tampa residents with a school made completely of portables. Parents asked their children to be provided with an acceptable school or to be sent to a White School, specifically West Shore, which was largely empty at the time. District superintendent J. Crockett Farnell responded that "We have provided a school for these people and they are supposed to attend". parents protested the school district's move to educate the students in all-portable buildings with a boycott. On Monday, December 1, 1958, a fire broke out at Our Lady of the Angels School in Chicago, Illinois, shortly before classes were to be dismissed for the day. The fire originated in the basement near the foot of a stairway. The elementary school was operated by the Archdiocese of Chicago and had an enrollment of approximately 1600 students. A total of 92 pupils and 3 nuns ultimately died when smoke, heat, fire, and toxic gases cut off their normal means of egress through corridors and stairways. Many more were injured when they jumped from second-floor windows which, because the building had a raised basement, were nearly as high above ground as a third floor would be on level ground, approximately 25 feet (7.6 m).
Trinity College School (TCS) is a co-educational, independent boarding and day school located in Port Hope, Ontario, Canada. Perry Hall High School (PHHS) is a public high school in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States, established in 1967 enrolling about 2,000 students a year. Located in the northeastern Baltimore suburb of Perry Hall and serving the surrounding communities, such as Kingsville and Glen Arm, it is part of the Baltimore County Public Schools system. Doak Sheridan Campbell was from 1941 to 1957 president of Florida State College for Women and its successor coeducational school, Florida State University. He oversaw the creation of this new university. His opposition to the admission of African-American students has caused controversy about the naming of Doak S. Campbell Stadium in his honor.

Established in 1926, Charlotte High is located at 1250 Cooper Street. The two school buildings, located on the original property at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Alexandria Street, were the first African-American related structures in southwestern Louisiana to be listed in the National Register of Historic Places, on March 1, 1996.

The Chicago Public Schools boycott, also known as Freedom Day, was a mass boycott and demonstration against the segregationist policies of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) on October 22, 1963. More than 200,000 students stayed out of school, and tens of thousands of Chicagoans joined in a protest that culminated in a march to the office of the Chicago Board of Education. The protest preceded the larger New York City public school boycott, also known as Freedom Day.
Milton Arthur Galamison was a Presbyterian minister who served in Brooklyn, New York. As a community activist, he championed integration and education reform in the New York City public school system, and organized two school boycotts.
