The Guardian Fiction Prize was a literary award sponsored by The Guardian newspaper. Founded in 1965 by the Guardian's Literary Editor, W.L. Webb, and chaired by him until 1987, it recognized one fiction book per year written by a British or Commonwealth writer and published in the United Kingdom. The award ran for 33 years before being terminated.
John Hugh Brignal Peel was a British journalist, author and poet, writing, as J. H. B. Peel, about farming and the countryside. From the 1960s, he wrote a fortnightly essay, "Country Talk", for the Daily Telegraph. He wrote and narrated radio and television programmes. He was also awarded "Book of the Year" on two occasions by The Sunday Times.

His roles included Harris in Porridge (1977), Frankie in the Bud Spencer comedy Charleston (1978), SD agent Sturmbannführer Arnold Ernst Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) and the Bishop of Bath and Wells in Blackadder II (1986).

Paired with Prem Nazir, they hold the Guinness World Record for acting in the largest number of films (130) together as heroine and hero. Sheela is a four-time winner of Kerala State Film Award. She came back to acting in 2003 through Manassinakkare after 22 years. In 2005, she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Malayalam film Akale. In 2019, Sheela was honoured with the J C Daniel Award, the Kerala government's highest honour for outstanding contribution to Malayalam cinema. She was also one of the highest paid actresses, reportedly paid more than her male counterparts, of her time.
